I must have not made myself clear. I have had both these girls over a year now. Apart from the problem issues they are fine. Its just frustrating as I only have 3 out of my 5 have ever laid eggs. Of course I could never get rid of them. :-)
Sorry to butt in but not too sure how to use site and I need some advice. I have RIR who is about 15mths. She is in with 5 other hens and they are all fine. She has had runny poo for the last 2 months. She free ranges for about 5 hours a day. Ruby appears to be happy and does all the normal...
My RIR came to me and got sick the next day. It tool a few months for her to get better. She is lovely and healthy now and at 40 wks is finally getting a red comb. She is at the bottom of the pecking order and is very quiet. Started tamish but untouchable now. I got them at 16wks. She is a...
I have 2 Wyandottes they have both just started to lay eggs at 42weeks!, They are both quite aloof. 1 is a gold laced and yes she is very quiet and also on the lower end of the pecking order. She is quite nasty to the 2 that are under her when perching at night. The other is a buff and she is...
For anyone interested, thought I'd update this post......Bella did lay her first egg early this week (10 weeks after this post), then went clucky the next day!!!!! I have been turfing her out of the nest to feed twice a day....she does get very indignant! The other Wyandotte also laid her...
WOW how exciting. I too would like to know about the white speckles, also some of my other breeds lay with brown speckles. You are lucky all of my first eggs have been very little 46gms mostly. I'll bet its a double yolker! All my chickens (when they started) laid one day, had a days rest...
My one Australorp (I have 7 chickens) is my most consistent egg layer. Every now and then she will throw in a double yolker. She does sing the 'egg song' but its short. She is aloof and a bossy britches when it comes to food. She will follow me around the garden talking as we go. All in all she...
I had the exact same thing happen with my RIR! She arrived with no tail feathers. She is now happy and a healthy 40wk old, is not laying yet and still has only a slight pink comb. I have several different breeds and only have 7 chickens. I have a Wyandotte who has had a red comb for the last...
Just to add to my post above, I've just heard Balla y(Wyandotte) elling that she has laid an egg again. I went out and she has been sitting on an empty nest for the last hour. She is in beautiful condition, they are free range. Can anyone tell me what is wrong with her.
31w Wyndotte is sitting on other chickens eggs for about 1.5hrs and then hopping out and yelling like she laid them!!!
Goes on with the rest of her day as normal. She is definately not laying yets. Is she psycho or what!
Thanks so much for the reply. Not exactly what I was hoping for, I wanted a miracle cure!!! I know ......I need to wait, not my strong suite. They are healthy and happy so that will have to be enough for the time being.
New to chickens.
My Light Sussex started laying at about 22 weeks. My Australorp at about 25 weeks. My Wyandottes who are both 28 weeks are not!
The Buff one every couple of days will give the call the other girls give when they lay. She can be in the middle of the yard. I have looked...
Hi, Newbie here.
My RIR became sick the day I got her home. She was rattling when she got upset. That was 5 weeks ago and she is now fine and has a lovely nature. The issue is she is in with 2 other chickens and an egg turned up in the dirt out in the open and I don't know who laid it. The...
After post yesterday, went outside and Miss Daisy (who is always the first to hitch up her skirts and run to me) was nowhere to be seen.
After a good look, I found her sitting on 5 eggs that she had laid in the corner under a bush!! So much for wondering why she laid one and then none for 8...
Was having a bit of a panic attack till I read this. First time chicken owner. One of my 4 has laid the most beautiful little egg......8 days ago! Not another since. I shall just have to be patient as they all look beautiful and healthy.
She is still rattling, but in herself eating, drinking better and showing a lot of interest in whats going on around her - scratching on the ground and grooming herself. So I'm assuming that the worst of it is over. Of course since my last post, none of them have done the neck stretch thing...
Also.....(yes I'm very wordy) I did check her throat tonight. Could not see anything and swabbed her throat and came our with a little mucus. (no gapeworms which i think could be an issue). Her and another of the newbies stretch their necks to the skys and open their beaks wide.
