    What is your favorite hatchery?

I sure hope they did a better job sexing mine. At what age can you start getting a good idea what you have. Mine are barred rock if it matters.

    Coop build. Comments/concerns welcome

So your recommendation would be put roosts in both coop and run. Then not bother with pop hole door or what. I believe when the run is through nothing is gonna get in there.

    Coop build. Comments/concerns welcome

All done with the run except door and apron. Running out of time here. Chicks need to be in by next weekend. Weather has not been very cooperative last couple of weeks.

    Coop build. Comments/concerns welcome

The beginning stages of the run. Will be 8x24. 2/3 of the run will be covered with metal and the remaining 1/3 covered with wire. Will have 3' hardware cloth at bottom and 3' 2x4 welded wire at top of sides. Will lay 2x4 welded wire down around perimeter for an apron. Thinking about a few inches...

    Leaving coop door open?

One thing that has not been mentioned is an automatic pop hole door opener. Can be bought or built. I'm going to build one for mine. Want them locked up securely at night, but not have to depend on me to let them out in the morning.

What to do when power goes out

Power came back on just before midnight. Talk about some happy chicks when that heatlamp came back on. Didn't think about bags of warm water. Will have to keep that in mind in the future. Thanks, Greg

What to do when power goes out

Power is out here for about the last hour with my 2 week olds in the brooder. What should I do for them. Got home about 30 minutes ago and they were ******. Heard them when I got out of the truck. Their all huddled up in two corners of the brooder. Got out one of my infrared propane heaters and...

How many architects does it take to build a chicken coop?

Very nice coop. Sounds like working with two architects would be about like working with my dad and uncle. Both engineers. Everything takes WAY too much thought ;) I normally just go ahead and do it while they discuss.

chick that will not lie down

Wish I could tell you what to do, but I lost one of my chicks Sunday night after the same kind of symptoms. She just could not poo. By the time I realized there was a problem she was just laying there breathing heavy and trying to poo. She was about 5 days old. She also had an almost liquid...

Alternative to pullet-shut and other auto doors?

That's the one I'm gonna go with shortly. Seems simple enough.

    LEGHORNS

I would ask in the Kentucky thread. Probably get help from some local people on here. What breed you want is your decision, but is there any difference in white and brown eggs other than the color of the shell. I'm new to chickens myself. Welcome to BYC.

    What is your favorite hatchery?

I've only had experience with one hatchery. First time chick " daddy". Ordered 25 BR from Ideal. Shipped last Tuesday and got call from PO at 6 am Thursday. All alive and quietly chirping. Received 26 and have only lost one sun night. Not sure what happened. All seemed fine.

    February Chicks

    Coop build. Comments/concerns welcome

Got inside wall almost completed. Nest boxes are done other than painting. Any recommendation on paint type?? Here's a pic of wall separating coop from rest of shed. Still gotta install hardware cloth between rafters at top of wall. Was thinking of putting up 3/4" foam insulation sheets between...

    Brooder box without top question

Thanks for y'all's input. Here are my babies with their newly installed top on the brooder.

    Yet another pasty butt question

The brooder is 4 by 8 with heat lamp in one end, so that should be fine. They are all active, so I will just keep an eye on them and clean as needed. Thanks, Greg
