Hens losing feathers around neck! Please help!

I have a small flock of 5 hens - SLW, Leghorn, Blue Cochin, RSL, Salmon Faverolle - and the last three are losing feathers on their necks. I did keep them confined to their coop all of last week and we had a drop in temperature (as did everyone else) recently to about 50's from typical 80+...

Help! Six month old pullets NOT laying!

Thanks for the info! I'm being a little dramatic in saying they don't do anything. They're very healthy girls. I've had them since they were hatched along with 15 others that have given away. They used to have full run of the yard, but that got way too messy so I reduced my flock size a while...

Help! Six month old pullets NOT laying!

I have five pullets (SLW, RSL, leghorn, blue cochin, and salmon faverolle), all hatched mid February, and none of them are laying. Really breaking my head trying to figure it out. They have a small coop - about 8'x5' open air coop with two roosts and two milk crates converted to nest boxes. They...

Ameraucana thread for posting pictures and discussing our birds

I keep reading that most of what we think are Ameraucanas are really easter eggers. I purchased an ameraucana and she looks like the pix on this thread, but would like your opinions. Any thoughts?

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

I'm in south Florida and have to get rid of my SLW rooster. I have a few, but this one is crowing already, so he may become a problem for us. He's 3 months old and non-agressive. Eventually we'll be getting rid of most, if not all of them. Just giving them a chance before they all start yappin'...

    Any of these a pullet?

Thanks! I have 9 more roosters. If you're in the south florida area, you can have them!

    Any of these a pullet?

That's what I was thinking as well. The one on the left (lighter comb) also acts different. It doesn't really participate in all the rough housing my roosters do. I hope it's a girl.

    bantam breeds?

Looks like they might be super cute! Haha! I agree about cochins. My blue cochin looked like them when she was a chick.

    Any of these a pullet?

Received some extra silver laced wyandottes with my order and am hoping I have a pullet in the flock. They're both 5 weeks old. Any thoughts?

Sexing frizzle cochin and silver laced wyandotte

Is that for the wyandotte or the cochin? I thought the wyandotte comb had to be red to be a rooster? So confused!

Sexing frizzle cochin and silver laced wyandotte

Yeah - 16 roosters. Unfortunately I don't have the space to keep roosters, otherwise I'd be excited about having them. They're all 5 weeks old. Really hoping at least the one in question is a pullet.

Sexing frizzle cochin and silver laced wyandotte

I have a bantam frizzle cochin that I purchased as "straight run" from Ideal. Not sure if it's a he/she! Also received 16 extra silver laced wyandottes as "packing peanuts". I think one may be a female because the comb is not red like all the other SLW. They're all 5 weeks old. Here are some...

Need help selecting starter flock! New to raising chickens

Thanks everyone for all the help! Definitely more confident about getting the right breed. I've been reading a lot on the ornamental birds and how they get picked on - that's why I thought two funny ones may do the trick. Maybe not. If I do swap out the silkie and polish, what two other birds...

Need help selecting starter flock! New to raising chickens

All except the polish and silkie are supposed to be hens. The other two are straight run, so maybe hens... dunno. I wanted a variation of eggs and a cute one (silkie) but then read that the other may pick on it b/c it's different looking, so I chose the polish to keep it company. If I get 3 of a...

Need help selecting starter flock! New to raising chickens

This is all new to me, but I am learning a lot on this site and am working on starting a flock in my backyard. I'm thinking of placing an order for 9 chickens (to meet $25 min) from Ideal. My list is below. Is that too much to start with? Any thoughts on the breed mix? All feedback is...
