It has been a great Monday around here. Chickens are happy, and we are now getting about 3 eggs a day. Our 4 old girls (stinkers!) are now 3 years old, and getting about 1 egg each a day from them, and about 2 eggs a day from our 5 (new) Golden Comets. Surely the egg production from out new...
Lol those pennant flags are scaring things away because at night they all think it's a UFO that landed in your yard, so they don't dare come around.
And it's easier to build a Ft. Knox when your enclosure only had to protect a small backyard flock of up to 12 chickens. We currently have 9...
Thank you for the quick response and my laziness getting back to this issue. I'm not sure which browser/version I'm using, just the BYC app. Reading the "known issues" FAQ it says that there is no work around unless I update my OS. So, I may have to do that?
Our 10 yo son agrees also. We had to buy a dozen eggs from the store a couple weeks ago. He called them the "stupid" eggs, refused to eat one lol. I agree, younger taste buds are probably better than mine. There is a huge difference in texture/flavor, glad we are starting to get 1 or 2 eggs a...
I have not posted in a while, lots of things always going on in life and BYC is one that seems to get pushed aside. Looks like everyone is having fun with their chickens as are we still. Can't believe this spring our pallet coop will be 3 years old. It is holding up well and no water leaks or...
Not really. The coop is holding up well, 2 years old now. Started out thinking it'd be around $4-500, saved my receipts and it totalled $1050 lol. I did a lot of research here and a few books from the library. Make lots of access to the inside for cleaning. Make sure it is predator proof, I...
Our original girls are now 2 full years old. Of the 6 we bought, still have 5. Our flock has endured a couple hardships, but have always been rewarded with beautiful, delicious, fresh eggs!
I, like fivewire, have been awol also, but am trying to get back on this site more often. Our 6 girls, born in March 2013, are still giving us 30-35 eggs/week! Such prolific layers they are. We've had some quick, sudden downpours here, everything looks so healthy and green.
Morning all, cock-a-doodle-dooooooooooooooooooooooooooo. Long crow lol.
Hoosiercheetah speaks the truth about poison ivy, and how it 'spreads' on your body. Nasty stuff, I've always been alergic to it and I can spot it from 10 feet away.
Still getting 4-5 eggs a day from our 6 girls...
All this cold weather bringing on the boredom in the hen house, and sometimes in ours also.
So, what to do. Well, around here, when the Polar Vortex brings ice, we make an ice rink and play hockey:
LOL I'd say that vet's wife has a very loose description of heritage. I guess an endangered breed could be described as heritage, since some people don't care about chickens and the breed as long as they are a good egg layer. Therefore, some rare breeds are heritiage because they are...
