I am in MD and was gonna ask the same thing. We have clay soil that does not drain at all.Rainwater just sits and the puddles turn green and slimy. The poor chickens in all that mud out in their run! They don't seem to mind though.
The smell is HORRIBLE ! I shoveled out 5 cart loads of muddy...

I got the camera on Amazon.com. It was the best price I found for that model.

Our friend feeds his hens hot mash in the winter mornings and swears it makes them lay better too.

Panasonic BL-C131A Wireless Network Camera. After having a wired USB camera set up in another location and multiple problems with various webserver apps, I decided to go with a wireless cam with it's own built-in webserver. The Panasonic cam has been the easiest and most reliable by far.
I have 12 chicks in the brooder that are 3.5 weeks old. 3 Buff Orps, 3 Black Australorps, 3 Barred Rocks, 2 NH Reds and 1 might be NH Red or Buff .
Check them out on their live webcam HERE .
Internet Explorer users will have to install Active X when prompted .
I was wondering about that too. My 2.5 week olds seem to be nocturnal. I thought that maybe the light being on 24/7 was either keeping them awake or messing with their internal clock.

I live near St. Michaels. You'd think that Delmarva , being the 'chicken capital' of the Mid-Atlantic, would mean that supplies would be easy to find but that's not the case. I have had to run all around getting feeders, litter, food and stuff. The nearest Tractor Supply is in Dover so...
Maryland winters are cold but rarely below zero. We do have awfully high humidity though, that makes for a cold damp everything.
I have 12 2-week olds that will be going out in the coop as soon as they are feathered. I am insulating the coop and putting the heat lamp out there.
My mom bought a...

I ordered from Ideal over 3 weeks ago 14 chicks, I did NOT get mine overnight, they were in shipping for 2 days!!! When i finally got them there were 2 DOA and 2 more passed within a 2 week period. My PO is great, they call me around 6 am when the chicks arrive and let me pick them up...
My week old chicks panted in 95, 90, and 85 degree heat. They were too sleepy also in the 90's. I have 2 thermometers in there to double check. They are 2 weeks old now and seem to enjoy 75 degrees. I watch them to see where they are gathering and everyone is kinda spread out from the lamp area.
Just a thought...do you think putting a stuffed animal or a t-shirt with our scent on it near her might help? I have used "rice buddies" with other little creatures that were restless or crying for mama. Fill a sock with uncooked white rice and microwave in 15 second intervals until it is warm...
I'm happy to report that the little meanie has stopped being so agressive. Actually she/he is quite docile now.
I have moved my 10 birds to a bigger brooder (bottom of a large dog kennel) with pine shavings and they really seem to enjoy the room to run. Here's a video of the girls as they...

hcammack,
How old are your chicks in this picture? They look very healthy.
While temps are still mild here I'd like to put mine out in the grass for a few hours.
