Is there a such thing as TOO warm?

2 week old chicks in a brooder are now in the laundry room because of the addition of two kitties. When I go in there it seems really warm. Can it be too warm?

Whats the temp in there? I know someone who kept her brooder to warm and she lost a couple of chicks.
At least thats what she thinks happend and when I stopped by her house her brooder was way too hot for them.
They were trying to get away from the heat lamp and into a cooler spot in the box.

I think it is probably around 80 in there. They are not scrambling to get away from the light.....

I have 9 day old in the laundry room.
Temp. is at 85 and they are fine.
I would say that if they are not trying to get away from the heat. They are fine.
I'm very new to this my first 6 babies. So its just my oppion.
Surly no expert!!!!!

We had our 12 week olds during the summer so there was no worry, but now, I just didn't know. They are there so the kitties don't get them, and I want them to be ok.

a constant 80 would be fine, the issue with chicks is ensuring that they stay warm enough, 95 minus 5 for each week etc... chicks raised outside during the summer constant 90 degree temp do fine as long as they have plenty of water.

We raise our heat lamp a few inches each week untill they don't need it

My week old chicks panted in 95, 90, and 85 degree heat.They were too sleepy also in the 90's. I have 2 thermometers in there to double check. They are 2 weeks old now and seem to enjoy 75 degrees. I watch them to see where they are gathering and everyone is kinda spread out from the lamp area.

Thanks for these answers. I was concerned about them - I still am because we keep moving them all over the place. they were in our shower when I came home

Step daughter was here doing laundry so my fiance moved them. Now they are in my son's room with their lamp.

I agree with the above posts, but just wanted to add that my hen hatched out nine little fuzzybutts in the barn 10 days ago and they are all fine despite the freezing temps we're having. I'm amazed!
The little ones have no feathers but they run around after her in the cold (today's high was 38 F) with seemingly no problem. She sits on them more often, is all. They are hardy little critters!
