    Duck Eye Problem

I don't think there's been pecking. I think it will help if I start keeping the ducks and chicks separate. That way I can provide the ducks with enough water without creating a wet environment for the chicks. I put a thing of water in ducks. It is elevated a little and has a 3.5 or 4 inch...

    Duck Eye Problem

As I looked one of the chicks has the same problem. Here's a pic of that. They have a normal chicken waterer, but I let them play in the pond fairly regularly. I can get a pic of the ducks if that's more helpful. Thanks!!

    Chick Eye Problem

Hello, one of my chicks has developed an eye problem (see pic). It seems that two ducklings in with the chicks have the same issue. I have never experienced this before. What is it and how do I treat it?? Also, what causes it? Could it be the ducks spilling water? Thanks!!

    Duck Eye Problem

Hello, I noticed today that one of my young ducks (about 3 wks old) has some crustiness around it's eye. Also, it's eyelid seems to have more flesh exposed above it's eye than normal. Some of my chicks have the same problem. What is wrong? How do I treat it? Thanks!!

    Newbie questions

Hey, I don't have answers to all your questions, but here I go... I don't follow any hard and fast rule regarding brooder dimensions. If they seem crowded, give them some more space, but 40" by 50" should be fine for 6 chicks (my whole chicken coop isn't significantly larger). I have always...

    Quail with Chickens??

Hello! I have successfully raised both Guinea and Ducks within my chicken flock. Has anybody tried jumbo coturnix quail? I have bantams, so there really wouldn't be a huge size difference.

    Some beginner questions!

I'll answer the ones I know :) Quails require less space than chickens. I'd say one square foot per quail would be fine. Quail do need a totally enclosed coop because they can fly to some extent. Also, they are fairly clueless as far as escaping/evading predators. My quail would sometimes lay...

    Sanitizing donated coop

I've always been advised to bleach and then rinse with water. I've heard 1:3 bleach to water OR 1:10 bleach to water.

    Blind Chicken in Michigan Winter

Hi all, I have a blind chicken who is in isolation because she was getting abused by the flock. I was planning on keeping her in an old rabbit hutch that has one side open and the other three covered. Will she be ok in here over our long Michigan winter??

    Thistle as feed

I was recently given some thistle seed by a lady moving into a condo that doesn't allow bird feeders. Can I feed this to my chickens? Should I spread it on the ground or mix it with feed??

    Prolapsed Oviduct Comes Back Worse!?

So, one of my chickens had prolapsed oviduct. I separated her from the flock for a week, pushed it back in when necessary, gave her very little food, and plenty of water (with apple cider vinegar). It seemed fine so she went back w/ the flock. Now, I separated her because a around 1" by 2"...

    Sour Milk?

Hi all, I have about half a gallon of milk from the store that went sour. Would it be okay to feed it to my chickens? Should I do it in small increments? Thanks!!

    What breed is this rooser?

Hi all, anybody care to take a guess as to the breed of this rooster (or any of the roosters in the photo)? He might be a cross. Thanks!!!
