This is my first year raising ducks and don't have a clue of what I'm doing!! First things first... I think I have a drake and a hen but not 100% sure... The duck I think is a drake is larger and he is developing his feathers faster. But his feather color is the same as a female Rouen. What do...
I had to put my hen down the other day. She wasnt dragging her tail, but she was gasping very strangly, and was wobbling and was very weak. I tried giving her water, figuring she had a choke (ate too much too fast). It didnt help and she was dying slowly. I just decided to put her down. Your hen...
Most roosters start showing agression about about three months. But if you hold them, hand feed them and stroke them until their eyes close (wether they try to bite you in the process or not) they will learn to be friendly. If your mean to them, they view you as a challenger. My rooster, Mars, a...
I have never had a rooster do this because i never bred my chickens. As long as he is not harming them then they should be ok. Dont separate them unless the chicks get seriously hurt. Good luck!
Also if one hen is broody, your other hens are likley to become broody as well. When they see one hen thats broody, it encourages them to become broody as well. Get her off her nest ASAP to prevent this from happening.
I have two hens that are doing this as well. She is just broody. Broody hens can act like a complete different hen when their broody. I have been told to pick them up off their nest and move them outside to free range. When hens are broody, they dont eat the proper amount of food and water...
If hes not harming them, then he is probably just pickng them up like how a dog picks up their puppies. Does he ever move them from place to place like that?
Most cockerals start to display their true behavior at this age. They begin to hit "puberty" and sometimes become agressive. I have two cockerals going through this stage right now. I would suggest holding him everyday. Believe it or not, most roosters wont bite when you go to pick them up. All...
I got two silver laced polishs this year. My pullet unfortunetly died from rats. My cockeral is still alive. He looks like a cockeral because his crest is large and his feathers on his crest fluff outwards, like my cockeral, Loki. They look about the same age too! He is about three months old. I...
Buzzards will only eat dead animals, they wont kill. I let my babies free range when they have their full set of feathers and dont need their heat lamp. If they have their mother with them, they could free range even earlier than that. My three month olds just got introduced to the outdoors...
She looks like a hen. She's just the top hen. Sometimes chicks even play fight and chase each other. But she is definetly not playing, just letting the others know who's the boss of the coop. Just make sure she dosnt cause the others to bleed. If she does, separate them temporarily. Our top hen...
I put my chicks outside to free ranging and offer them the coop when they are fully feathered and don't need their heatlamp anymore. When they are fully feathered and don't need their heatlamp anymore, move them to their coop and just put their food and water inside their coop. Put them in the...
Its hard to tell at this age. I have been raising orpingtons for two years now. I have eight and all are hens. Orpingtons can get huge. One of my hens (the one in my profile pic) is HUGE. Intact, I've had people mistaken her for a roo. She even has the huge waddles and comb. Orpingtons are hard...
If they are all the same age, than you may only have two cockerals and that's the silkie number four and the second barred that has the more developed comb abd wattles. Roosters develope faster and are generally bigger than the hens. I think your fourth silkie is a rooster because his crest is...
