    What is squatting?

Your right, squatting indicates that the hen is submissive and willing to be mounted. They only do this when they are mature enouph to lay or getting ready to lay. Some chickens don't squat because they have no interest in it. Just like some will never go broody.

No, it won't hurt the chicks at all. Medicated food is actually better for chicks raised with out their mother.

    Placing Docile Pullet with Babies?

In my case my two darling hens that are the lowest in rank in the main flock were awful. They saw the oportunity to make someone lower ranking then them and picked on the newbies. introducing dogs to chickens.....any advice?

Have some one sit with your dog and you hold one of the chicks/hens, and tell them No repeativly. Let them smell the chick too. Do this a few times and if their reaction is good let the chick down to run around a little while holding the dog on a leash. Keep telling him no or easy, what ever...

We hatched out 3 eggs as a school project. One egg did not hatch and the other 2 came out with the curled toes/feet. I read where the temp was too low, high enouph to form the chick but not high enouph to finish the job. I checked out the temp and it indeed was too low. Someone told me to buy...

time of year and horrible weather don't help, where did you get the hen from. I have 2 easter eggers over a year old now that have never laid. I hatched them myself. Who is laying eggs??

You have to keep going in the coop and watch. If you have hens that look the same and you want to mark them put dark nail polish on a toe ( not red). I was able to know who's egg was who's by the shape and color by watching who was sitting in what nest and finding the eggs.

My chickens are not laying eggs

a chicken drops off considerably after 3 years of age. Where do you live? Is it cold weather, shorter days of daylight? Lots of breeds take a break during winter but will start up again when the days get longer and the weather gets nicer.
