    Growing fodder for chickens

Thanks. I will try this. I've been having a little mold here and there, too, and hate throwing out the fodder.

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

I don't know how old he is. I got him from a breeder in November. When I got him home I noticed a small amount of white near the base of one of the tail feathers. Over the winter the white has become more pronounced and now appears to be in 3 tail feathers. I will definitely look closer next...

    Mealworm farming

It appears that I just have to learn how much a certain amount of worms will eat. I put half an apple and half a pear in 3 days ago for 2000 worms and the apple is moldy.......which is to be expected, so I guess I will cut the food amount in half so they can eat most of it before it molds.

    Black Copper Marans discussion thread

My Black Copper Marans Rooster now has white at the base of two feathers in his tail. I know this is a culling point, but what I don't know is how old do the chickens have to be that I can be fairly certain that they are showing their permanent coloring. I have heard "after the second molt"...

    Mealworm farming

Thanks. I am new to the mealworm thing. I just got my worms a few days ago. I decided to try apple and pear at the same time. I put half of each in the bin on plastic lids. After two days, there are 3 times as many on the pear as are on the apple. They seem to like both, but they are...

    Mealworm farming

Will the mealworms eat apples? If so, is it better to put in half an apple or slice the apple and put a few pieces in?

    Mealworm farming

After reading these recent posts, I am moving my mealworms into a spare bedroom, where I can turn the heat up a little (maybe 76) and keep the door shut. The rest of my house is around 68-70 and I want to get my colony off to a good start. I'm impatient. I have to wait 3-4 months for worms I...

    Mealworm farming

I have seen different opinions here about having a lid versus no lid on mealworm containers. What's the consensus on this?

    Growing fodder for chickens

I started barley for sprouting a few days ago and I have my first sprouts. Yay! Now to keep the root mat from molding. I tried to sprout barley 6 moths ago, but couldn't even get it to sprout, so I've purchased new barley and so far, so good.

How do you put the information on the bottom of your replies? I see a lot of people put a favorite quote or list the types of chickens, etc. they have.

Hello everyone. I've been reading threads on BYC for several months and finally decided it was time to join. I have several difference breeds of chickens and find them to be so much fun. Can anyone suggest any good threads on BYC?
