I have a chick here that hatched out either last night or this morning. It's belly is really poochy and it can't seem to get stand up on it's legs. it just sorta waddles on it's belly.
A few weeks ago I posted about a cracked egg that we incubated and hatched out a chick. After that a raccoon killed several chickens including the 2 broody hens that were hatching the eggs from which this chick came. So we couldn't sneak it back under it's mama like we planned.
The chick is...
The thing I saw (whether or not it's what's getting the chickens) was somewhere between the size of my dog and my 5yo ds, and it was a dark bluish gray.
My daughter said she saw something in a tree the night before last. She drew me a picture of it, looks like a cross between a cat and a...

That's one of the things confusing me. I would think a coon or possum would get the eggs. It's had plenty chance to steal eggs, but it's leaving them alone and just killing birds.
I don't know what it is getting my chickens, but it's killing them off one at a time. It's not bothering eggs that it could get, it's just killing chickens. 2 birds that it got were in a cage. The cage was not damaged, and the spaces are not far enough apart to get a chicken thru, so we're...
up and moving likes to sleep on thermometer/humidity gauge still a little unstable maybe the towel in the quick fix incubator......it is a silkie....not sure if it is full or mixed.........does any on think the silkie hen might take it in or would it be best to keep in a brooder?? still waiting...
peeper still moving and peeping........will we need to remove guaze to help it come out of the shell or just let it do it's thing.......noticed one of the roosters trying to mess with the hens on nest several times when we found the egg and a little while later found another egg out and looked...
We have him wrapped in guaze, and are monitoring the heat and humidity. So far there's a good bit of movement and he's been cheeping. Hope that's a good sign
I don't know exactly how many days, but somewhere in the 2-3 week range. It should have hatched some time in the next few days anyhow. I don't when exactly tho. It was just kicked out of the nest today.
You can't see the chick real well in this pic, but it's beak and part of the body are visible. The blood is between the egg and membrane.
There are 2 hens sitting on this nest, I don't know if that's why this poor guy got kicked out or what. I've never had 2 hens on the same nest before.
have lamp on it and have it about 99 to 102........chick is peeping some and moving a bit...leave it in shell or help it out of it.......some one said if membrane dries then it will die......most of the shell is cracked and can see the chicks beak.....
Dh is working on putting together a homemade incubator real fast. What should we do about the egg being cracked and the show of blood between the shell and membrane
