Let's talk flock! What is your flock size to yard/land ratio?

Ahhh ok! I should have realized that lol. 6 of them are standard size, the biggest one is a silver barred maran, she's a big lady! The biggest one I ever had was a easter egger rooster, and wow was he huge. But he was mean to the hens (and me) so I had to get rid of him. I love bantams, so I...

Let's talk flock! What is your flock size to yard/land ratio?

Nice!! I have a greyhound, but she isn't particularly defensive, just kind of there haha. The run does a great job of keeping them safe, but it's obvious they want to be free ranging. I'm sorry, I don't know what LF means.

    Chickens in Movies

I'm not sure what breeds they are, but I LOVE seeing chickens in movies! It ends up being the highlight of the movie. Pollito is so cute! But now I'm sad I can't think of any movies to add :( Come back to me, I'll have some soon.

Anyone else see this "cute" story on the news?

It is cute, but it does make me sad because her school isn't going to allow a duck. Does the poor duck have any duck friends? Will he be able to socialize with other ducks? It makes me wonder about his future. (it may be obvious, but I know nothing about ducks)

    Favorited hens

I have a few favorite hens... They have such personalities! My avatar is Twink, very photogenic, beautiful bird, but she is really quite modest. Belvedere, looking all suspicious Lil' Cochin, always adorable and friendly Y'grette, the wildling And my absolute, love her forever...

Let's talk flock! What is your flock size to yard/land ratio?

I have 18 currently, and when they free range on my half acre backyard (or wherever they wander to) it seems like a good ratio, but I had to build a run because of predators, and I feel really bad for them when they are in the run, like there are too many of them. The coop was built for like 40...

    Young rooster aggressive towards pullets

I have a young rooster about 6 weeks old. I haven't been around chickens very long, but this chicken seems really mean to all the other chickens. The other chickens (mostly pullets as far as I can tell) will occassionally peck each other to establish dominance. This rooster grabs other chickens...

Stray chicken. She's a beauty! Need opinions.

I've been reading this thread and hearing about Gretel is heartwarming. Thank you very much for sharing her story. I'm so sad to hear about your latest news. It's alright to cry. You can acknowledge your emotions. I don't currently have children, so take this with a grain of salt, but I would...

    Trying to figure out genders...

Thank you everyone! Now that the EE is confirmed roo, I must figure out a way to keep him and make this flock work. My husband is very attached to him. Thank you very much for trying to explain the feathers, it's just hard for my to understand what I'm supposed to look for. I can see about...

    Trying to figure out genders...

I have a lovely silkie, but she/he seems aggressive to the other chickens, and especially to the new chickies I have. The little chicks are in their own pen, but I've had one in particular(more on that one in a minute) that has slipped out a few times, and the silkie attacks it every time. So...

    countertops

I haven't done it myself, but I am looking into concrete countertops. I love the way they can look, especially since you can shape them into virtually everything. http://www.houzz.com/photos/kitchen/concrete-countertops- I saw a video of a professional doing it on youtube and the results...

    Pasture is growing...now what?

Really the cheapest thing to keep it looking nice is just to mow it. Once you put any livestock on there, you will need to spend time and money on maintaining the pasture. Animals will destroy that grass and you would have to put in a lot of time and money to keep it looking nice. Plus you'll...

HELP!!!!!! My neighbor (city councilman)... let's talk covenants!

I'm not an expert, but I have heard if you can prove that these documents were not provided to you when you bought your house, you do not have to obey them, as they were not part of the agreement when you purchased. Frankly, reading your convenant, there is no way I would move into that...

    Horses

Thank you so much! I agree, but I am biased :) I haven't shown her in a quite a while. I would like to but it just seems things keep coming up. We just moved a few months ago and we're still getting the farm set up. I've been in the process of building a riding arena since Christmas, and it's...

    Assorted Bantams from TSC

Thanks for the reply! I think you may be right. I looked up pictures of OEGB's last night and I would say they are starting to lean in that direction. I will post pictures as they grow up just for conformation.

    Assorted Bantams from TSC

Thanks for the reply. I had a feeling one of them was an old english game, but I had no idea which one! I was hoping for ee on #2 or #3, since I heard they had such sweet personalities, but they don't seem to have the greenish legs that I've heard they're supposed to have. I know #2 and #3 are...
