I threw a duck egg in the incubator with some of my chicken eggs and it is now day 17. I've noticed the air sac is very small. I've been keeping the humidity around 20- 40% with temp of 100F (circulated air).
What do you think my issue is??
I'm at day 16 and the air sac isn't as big as i think it should be. I've kept the humidity between 46 and 55% for the most part though it stayed around 52%. If i decrease it now to say 40% until i lockdown in a few days, will that be enough to increase the size of the sac?
I just read the article "Hatching Eggs 101" and wanted to know who else follows the rule of decreasing the temperature during the last few days of incubation. Does it give you more successful results?
Thanks!
The glass bulb thermometer is garbage! they are extremely inaccurate. With that being said, the digital one can also be inaccurate. I recommend going out a buying a couple new ones
I've been keeping mine between 50%- 56% and currently at day 5. After reading this though, it seems like people have better hatch rates between 40 and 45%. Should I bring mine down or is it best just to continue for this hatch where ive been keeping it?
So it's day 3 and i just candled a few of the eggs and noticed that everytime i flipped the egg over, the yoke would float to the top. Is this normal? I did notice veils growing.
Also in one, i did not see anything but in another i only saw a yoke with no veins. Does this mean the one with...
I have added a fan kit to it.
The room temp is 73ish and it is stable. I was able to get it down to 99- 100 so and it looks pretty stable now so fingers crossed it stays that way
Is the thermostat the wafer thing that you have to put in?
i have a forced air hova bator and the temperature is staying between 100-101.3 and i cant get it to stay any lower. Is this too warm? I'll be putting eggs in tomorrow
I have 3 silkie hens, 1 bantam hen wyandotte and 1 bantam rooster wyandotte.
They are about a year old give or take and none of them have gone broody. I really want them to start sitting on eggs.
Does anyone have experience with chickens not going broody?
I have been treating them all with Super Booster and the silkies is almost completely better and i havent heard any of them sneezing but i did notice yesterday that one of the other chickens sounded a little stuffed up and raspy
So i just brought my chickens home 2 weeks ago. I noticed within a couple days that they could randoms sneeze once or twice so didnt think too much about it.
Today I noticed that a silkie had ONE watery eye and one nostril was what looked like blocked.
What do you think this is? Should we...
I have a orpington roo, 3 silkies hens, a wyandotte bantam roo and a wyandotte bantam hen.
The orpington rooster is what looks like mating with the bantam hen but after he is finished she just lies there for about 10 seconds. is that normal? or could he actually be attacking her, no mating?
I've searched the web and come to the conclusion that there are MANY different views on where eggs should be stored while waiting to be incubated (whether that be in the incubator or under a hen).
So my question is how do you store your eggs before incubation (fridge, on the counter etc)?
