Yellow cyst on eye of RSL

Thank you for your reply. I had also sent an e-mail to someone that I know personally that raises chickens and she had not seen it either. I'm a little worried and not sure if it is worth a trip to a vet or if it is something that can be spread. I have been trying to keep the coop as clean as...

Yellow cyst on eye of RSL

Hi everyone. My 18 week old RSL has developed a yellow cyst on one of it's eyes. I have noticed that he has been sitting with his eyes closed a lot today as if he is sleeping. Otherwise, he seems to be eating fine. I have attached a photo. Please let me know if you know what this could be...

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Here is mine at the same age. He is the laziest of the bunch, so it's hard to get a good shot of him standing up. Looks a lot like your pic#2. The second picture shows him with my EE Rooster. Thanks for sharing.

Here are some of mine at 8 weeks. Some have more red than others. I have 8. They are very friendly and pleasant. My EE pullet is extremely skiddish. Maybe she is feeling a little out numbered though :-)

Is your rooster grown yet? Mine looks the same at 8 1/2 weeks and I'm curious what he will look like fully developed. He is starting to get some brown on his wings, but is mostly black and white.

Wooden Playset converted to coop - need suggestions

I will try that. I think it is so weird that my chickens are not using their coop roosts. They are sleeping in the sand. As a matter of fact, they never come out into the run unless I go out there. Maybe they are still scared. They are about 8 weeks. When we tried to free range two of them...

Wooden Playset converted to coop - need suggestions

Hi. I finally got to the point where I could post some pictures. We still have to shingle the nesting box and we are going to go with another user's idea and frame the run door in on the inside with wood. So, I still have that to do. We ended up using a dog kennel for our run. Here is a...

    Is our brooder too small?

I have a somewhat related question. My chicks are 5 1/2 weeks old. I have eleven of them. They are very crowded in their brooder, so I got my dog cage (large 4 X 3 Ft.) and put half in there and left the other half in the original brooder. Should I not separate them. I am starting to have...

Bruce, I thought so also. However, I friend of mine ordered 6 "pullets" from Tractor Supply last year and 2 ended up being cockerels. I guess they get it wrong sometimes. The funny thing is that the chick I think may be the cockerel is the sweetest one. However, he has a larger comb, it is...

Easter Egger Sexing "tips and tricks" *Pictures Included*

Your first one looks just like mine at the same age. Coloring and all. Mine developed a 3 ridge comb Very early which is now starting to darken at 5 weeks. He also had very thick legs, big feet, stood upright, and just basically has an attitude. He and my other EE chick which I believe is also...

I have 8 RSL pullets (well they are supposed to be anyway). They are now 4 weeks old. How can I tell if they are roosters are not? I have one or two that seem to have bigger combs than the others and a little brighter in color on the comb. Are there any other obvious differences?

Wooden Playset converted to coop - need suggestions

Thanks for the pics. Very creative. We are have been toying with with idea of framing in the swing for the run, but we think we may come out cheaper buying a dog kennel, adding some hardware cloth and attaching that to the swingset (the cost of lumber has just really gone up). We are still...

Wooden Playset converted to coop - need suggestions

I was wondering though. Do we take out the picnic table (right above the ground ) or leave it and make it a two story coop? My thoughts were the nesting boxes would be on the picnic table level(on the outside) and then a a ramp going up to the very top level with roosts up there as well...
