I think I'm gonna try the RR this year since they don't have the health issues of the CX. I want something that doesn't just saddle up on the feeder all day. I know you're not supposed to hatch off the CX eggs, is that true with the RR also?
I have three ducks that just recently started laying. I used one to make some corn bread and all was fine, haven't tried any other way yet. When I cook my chicken eggs I have to cook them well done or they run right through me. They don't bother anyone else in the family.
I was out feeding my flock the other evening and heard a squealing racket. Looked over and one of my Welsummer hens was running around with a mouse in it's mouth. It frailed it around for a while then swallowed it whole! Never seen that before, don't know how it kept from choking.
Catch and release is a bad idea.Down here it's also illegal. You might luck up and catch a young yote in a live trap but a mature one won't go for it. Foot hold traps are the most effective way to deal with them in my opinion. If you're not able to do it you could probably find a trapper in your...
Thanks Miss Lydia. Sometimes they'll pile in 4 or 5 at a time, the rest will hang out at the edge jabbering away waiting for their turn. I need a bigger/deeper pool cause they like to dive.
[/IMG] My duck doesn't seem to be getting any better. I'm still giving brewers yeast and electrolytes. She's alert as can be, eats and drinks well but can't stand. I took couple pics to show her legs, almost looks like her joints are flattened. I have no idea what could have caused this.
That would be interesting to see! I guess if the dog and cat can do it,so can the birds. I guess where you live you wouldn't have to worry about the water freezing and busting it.
Her poop is kinda runny and dark, not bloody. I don't think she got into anything toxic. Eyes and breathing seem normal, the top edge of the pool is flush with the ground and they have a ramp to crawl out. I fed her some water melon this evening and she gobbled it up.I'm gonna put her in some...
I got a kiddie pool for mine now and they love it! I got 17 ducks from 7 to 5 weeks old, they get the water nasty pretty quick so I change the water every day.
Hello folks, I've got a seven week old Cayuga that can't stand up. It's just happened suddenly, I let my ducks out of their coop on Sunday afternoon and they all filed out like normal. They played around in their pool while I cleaned out the coop and I noticed one was laying down and just wasn't...
I ordered 5 cayugas and 5 rouens from them, took 2 days shipping. They all arrived healthy and they added an extra Cayuga. They're about 5 weeks old now and growing like weeds!
I had a duckling with a crooked neck, started adding brewers yeast to the feed and she straightened up after a couple weeks. I bought it in the powdered form and just shake it up in the feed.
