Could we have a set of twinnies in this egg? We’ve never had any of our silkies lay a double yolk we before so I’d be surprised if it was. But I don’t know what else these two blobs could be? They both move. This is a day 9 egg
One of my silkies started laying a couple of weeks ago. She was going really well and laying 6/7 days of the week. They have a perch about 10cms off the ground and she has always insisted on laying from the perch.
About 3 days ago she stopped laying and has been sitting on the same spot on the...
So...I had seen my silkie roo trying to mate with one of my pullets (she isn't laying yet but I was told when I bought her that she was close to POL). She would sometimes squat for him when he tried to do his thing. He was a bit uncoordinated. He started doing this 1 month ago and he is...
We finished building our new coop yesterday. I only have silkies and am wondering what the best coop flooring would be? My research is pointing towards sand because I want something that is low maintenance and clean and not smelly.
Our run gets quite muddy. I was thinking of laying pebbles in...
So after reading another post I've had alarm bells go off!
I'm a newbie and didnt realise that the different stages of feed related to the contents, I thought it referred to how coarse the crumble was...anyway...I bought layer crumble as I've got some older pullets and roosters and just thought...
How do you cull a sick chicken? I think she is beyond help and I don't want to prolong her pain.
I never thought I would get so attached to a chicken...
I noticed one of my silkies was have trouble getting up and would stumble around and fall easily. She would flap her wings and would just make it worse for herself.
This morning I went out to give them some grapes and she was just lying on the ground I threw grapes in and she wouldn't even try...
We bought a day old and a 2 day old silkie chick today. They came from the same breeder and had been togetherI just checked on them in the brooder and the day old was laying on its back cheeping and couldn't get up. I helped her up and the other one pecked it just above its beak, twice. It is...
These were bought as "silkies" but they can't be. They have a yellow beak and pink skin. They do have feathering on 3 of their 5 toes (although one chick does have 4 toes on one foot).
I have silkie chicks, around 3 months old now, and this morning I noticed that one has started saying bok bok bok. Do roosters also make this sound? Or just hens?
One silkie has started crowing
My silkie started crowing this morning!
I went out To give them some more feed and he crowed (if you can call it that lol) and started flapping his wings. Each time I tried to get inside the pen he did it again. When I went away he stopped! Is he going to be aggressive?? I was scared I had to...
I painted my chicken coop today and not long after I finished it started to rain (of course it did). So it's not drying. My chickens have brushed up against it. They are silkies.
It was dulux paint. How dangerous is this going to be as they preen themselves???
One of my 3 month old silkies has a twisted beak, the older she gets the worse her beak
Becomes. She is still growing but is noticeably smaller.
We recently bought 4 more silkies from a different 'breeder' and one is starting to develop a twisted beak also.
I'm so sad this has happened again...
I have 5, 10 week silkies and another 2 7 week silkies.
The 7 week silkies are in their cage inside the run where all the other chickens live. They've been in the run but protected inside their own cage for about a week and half. A few times we have tried getting them to mingle but one chicken...
