Well, took her to an avian vet and had xrays taken.
Nothing broken, nothing dislocated. Vet says she is 100% positive that it is not Mareks as they see a lot of Mareks in our area and are very familiar with a variety of presentations.
No injuries, no swelling, no sores, no cuts, she is...
Thank you but that seems like a long drive as well - but if I can't find anyone closer, I might have opt for the ones farther away, and if so I will bug you then if that is okay!
Not sure why she wouldn't get better if it is just a slipped tendon or dislocated hip.
I doubt highly that it is Marek's since like I mentioned previously, both her and her sister were vaccinated as chicks for Marek's from a certified NPIP flock. Granted that doesn't guarantee against it, but...
Well both flukes, intestinal worms like tapeworms can in fact live for a while outside of a body and be moving while outside of the body until they dry up and die or get eaten.
so her leg is much worse -- now she is almost always on the hock and when trying to walk - extends the leg straight out in front of her and then brings it down in a clumsy step and then her hock hits the ground when she puts weight on it.
Finally contained her to a rubbermaid tub with chicken...
No cuts at all.
When feeling her hips (I think) ... the bad leg seems to jut out farther than the good leg up where it attaches to the body. If it is a dislocated hip, not sure how I can fix it ... I tried massaging it but it didnt seem to help at all.
She is such a sweet bird ... I hoipe she does recover.
I was holding her this afternoon ... and it feels like one leg juts out further from the hip than the other side does.
I tried massaging it gently to see if it might "slip" back into place if that was the issue, but it didnt seem to...
I do, but my flock is her and her sister and my roo - and the roo hasnt yet had physical contact with either of the girls.
The girls were vaccinated for Mareks, and we think the roo has not.
We know that a small percentage of vaccinated birds will still get Mareks and develop the full...
My Orps are like 2-1/2 months old.
I shot a quick video to show some friends how they were going for the grapes after ignoring grapes as food at all for the first few weeks.
I'd thought a few times prior to this that maybe the splash orp limped, but then I'd watch her and couldnt see...
I was JUST thinking about this the other day ... how to protect my chickens from snakes.
I don't mind snakes, not even the venomous ones, but I'd rather just try to think of ways to minimize having the snakes being *drawn* to the coop and run, much like I'd like to minimize the appeal and...
They will be staying overnight in the house for a few weeks at least most likely, and we both try to handle Trill every day - though as the weeks pass, it becomes less wanting to be handled ... but if it is a rooster like I suspect ... but then I imagine that is kind of normal as roosters go in...
And I pestered poor Renie for a few more recent pics as I really wanted to see the splash pullet on her own as well and she sweetly provided me with a few!
So here the girls are at around 6 weeks:
And then one of the Splash Orp pullet in all her own glory at 6 weeks:
Is she not...
And I thought I shared them ... but I snapped up a couple of orp pullets from Renie cuz I totallllllly fell in love with them and they ought to be heading my way soon ...
Here they are at 4 weeks (I saw her post for the splash and black orp pair and then found her FB page and liked it so saw...
