I just wanted to comment on AmericaunaMama's post. We met her today (after seeing this post) and were able to get some excellent organic feed for a great price. So if you are in or around Tampa Bay, it's totally worth giving her a call!
One of my girls started laying about 3 weeks ago. The first eggs were perfectly shaped, but just very small. Three weeks later, they are still perfectly shaped, but very small. Will they get bigger as she gets bigger? Or are they going to be teeny tiny forever?
Here is a comparison: three...
Okay, just one chicken I haven't determined the gender. She is approximately between 13-15 weeks old. She's still getting feathered in, especially her back, and her comb isn't super dark or very red. I'm confused. Thoughts?!?!?!
I just found out (today on the "what breed or gender is this" thread) that one of my flock is a Buff Brahma - not sure if she is breed standard, but I think she purty.
She's just about 13 weeks old....slow grower. Her name is Sandy. :)
@GreyhoundGrrrl - here is a pic of Sandy when we first brought her home (she's prob between 2-3 weeks old in this) - she basically looks identical to how she does now, just smaller (2nd from right).
Wow - you are right on about Sandy...I looked up the Buff Brahma...100% the same bird. Thanks for that!
Henrietta makes us a little nervous too...mostly because of her darker tail feathers.
Not sure about Stormy...I feel like we were told Australorp...maybe a blue or silver one???
They...
Probably in the same boat as so many others, chickens allowed in our parts, but no roos. I love each of them...and we knew this day might come...but I'd like to find any roos good homes if they are (in fact) roosters. My flock of 6 ranges from about 12-15 weeks old (not sure where each one lies...
Whew! Thank you both for the reassurance and what else we might see along the way. I'll try to relax and enjoy them as chicks, but I'm still watching them like a hawk. :)
As any new parents would likely be, we are already thinking something is wrong with our little girls. They range from 3-5 weeks old and we just picked them up on Wednesday. We have 3 RIR's that look the same, 1 RIR that looks different, 1 cochin, and 1 Australorp.
All three of the similar...
