Look who graduated to the big girl coop?!? Everyone figured out the roosting bars w/only a little hint. They all found their food this morning, need to check to make sure they found their water (chicken nipples in the bottom of the orange bucket). But otherwise, I think it was a good night.
Trsturself - Fingers crossed you get some good offers after this weekend!
Thanks for sharing info on fermented food. Do you all feed fermented food year round or just in the summer? Someone mentioned that they keep a bucket out by the coop, do you do it in the winter also? Does it freeze...
Considering the crap that's gone on in MI for the past few years and the fact that the state is virtually bankrupt and lots of citizens still can't find jobs, this comes as a big shock! Hopefully CO stays smarter than MI!
Maggiemo -- oh no! What an awful morning! Hoping it was just a fluke!
Trsturself -- Glad to know I'm not the only one with an enigmatic chicken. Fingers and toes crossed for you!! I'm jealous!
Onstad -- what a fantastic idea and service!
Still can't get over how much those meat birds are eating. Don't fall down in the pen with them... you might become a tasty morsel! I wish there was an age component to the bird limit in Denver. With 3 boys, it would be nice to be able to add a few meat birds to the layers since they...
We had a bit of hail tonight along with the rain. It was mostly a nice rain though... lasted for about 2 hrs and was mostly gentle with tiny hail. Guessing I'll be able to find some nice treats for the girlies tomorrow. ;) Hoping that's it for the season and no more comes after I put veggies...
Mo -- ah, well, that's a neat idea... too bad your meal maker didn't make it past a garden meal. :( The BA was born on about 3/20, so about 4 wks ago. It still doesn't have much of a comb and what it does have isn't pink/red at all. But it's legs, specifically the knee joints, are huge and it...
I'm thinking that'll be my problem w/the chickens. We originally got the chickens to teach our kids that food doesn't come in Styrofoam packaging from the grocery store. Our intention is to keep the chickens until they stop reliably producing eggs and then use them for food. My husband, an...
Oh my gosh that is the cutest critter!
We're in Denver proper and just starting our first brood. We're still working on our coop/run but it's enclosed enough to put the girls out during the day... only 3 of the 9 have enough feathers to truly go out right now. With this awesome weather I've...
Ashdoes - so what other critters are you planning to get? W/3 little and 1 big boy, we might need to move to your neck of the woods just to be able to feed everyone before the littles are teenagers b/c I don't think I can convince my neighbors a mini cow is just a large dog nor do I think I can...
Pozees -- thanks for the info. The austrolorp definitely has thicker legs and seems generally bigger than the other birds. It doesn't have much of a comb yet, no more than the other 3 weekers, but the cape and sweep feathers do look more pointed than rounded. I think it's a boy and figuring...
Hello everyone!
Ha, I was in Murdoch's the other day and walked past the chicks and ooohhh, they're so hard to resist! LOL But I'm fairly certain all our neighbors can count and we're only allowed 8. Booo!
Do any of you put dust baths in your brooders? Our oldest chicks are about 4 wks...
Sorry for the doa, but that's not too bad out of 21! I'm so amazed they ship so well. Can't wait to see them today... hopefully the weather will cooperate. Going to do my best to come today b/c I've got plans with the kids on Fr and going to the Denver swap on Sa. Think we'll just wait until...
