I had a very ill hen last week. She could not walk, nor really even stand. She had aqueous diarrhea, I'm not experienced enough to know, for sure, what the pathogen was. I treated the sick hen with Tylan injections, and now she is fine, back with the other girls, and reestablishing her...
I bought an inexpensive patio mister at Lowe's. It stands on it's own, no assembly, nor instalation are required. In the heat of the day, I hook the hose up to it, and the girls seem to appreciate it. I have noticed that they stop panting when it is in use. They also love cold watermellon...
My girls don't seem that noisy... They do sing their egg songs every day when they lay. They are very gentle birds and although Mavis is the dominant chicken of the flock, she is never mean. They get along with my Ameraucanas well, but the Americaunas are a little more mean, I think.
I have 3 black autralorps that I purchased from a hatchery as started pullets.. I love my aussie girls, they are sweet natured and lay an egg almost every day. I recently hatched out 10 Australorp / Ameraucana eggs. I hope to have plenty of olive eggs.
I have a broody Lavender Ameraucana. Etta is determined, she is presently sitting on more nonfertile eggs than will fit under her. I have ordered some light sussex fertile eggs, which should be here today. Here is the plan... Remove Etta from the nest, remove most of the eggs from under her...
My rooster had to go to a new home. He was too vociferous for our quiet neighborhood. The neighbors said they didn't mind, but I did. We couldn't garden without him getting going. Also, he was a little to aggressive to everyone but me. He attacked the dog, my partner, his daughter, and was...
I am about a month into my meal worm production. I currently have 3 bins, one for larvae, one for beetles, and one for pupa. Soon, I will be adding another bin, due to the rapidity at which my larva are pupating. I understand the squeemish factor, but I do not find them that gross. I...
I just bought my 5 - 9 week old Ameraucanas a new coop. They will not go into it. I sprinkled some starter on the steps and inside, they ate the feed on the steps but still would not go in. I even tried to entice them with worms (I have a worm bin). My gut instinct is that they will get used...
My 8 week old Lavender Ameraucanas went on their very first evening free range expedition. They seemed so happy hunting for bugs and eating greenery. When most of the way across the yard a cardinal decided to sing. The sound just unnerved them horribly. They got back to their run quite...
I have a brood of Lavender Ameraucana chicks. There are two roos who are about 6 weeks and just moved to their outdoor run. Last night they faught until they were both injured and bloody on the heads. I have seperated them, and am looking for a home for one of them. I am using antibiotic...
Absolutely…. My chics are only 6 weeks old. They are Black/Lavender Split Ameraucanas. There is a black hen, and a black roo with the remainder being lavender. The two black chicks are very close… I am surprised.
They spent their second day on an outdoor field trip. They prefer the shade, so I've pulled their impromptu pen all over the back yard. They are so cute.
