We had an awful morning this morning, and I was hoping to get an opinion or two on what could have happened. We have a broody goose who has been sitting on a clutch of sixteen eggs for almost a month now (they were due to hatch any day now), and she has been a great mama goose ("mean" and not...
Hello everyone! I had a few questions about incubating goose eggs. We are trying a few different methods this year (a broody hen as well as wet and dry incubation to see which approach we prefer). Anyway, I was wondering if I could clean the shells up a bit so that I could candle them easier...
Would a hen be able to hatch a goose egg (with a little assistance to flip of course). I am only asking because I have a friend who would like to hatch her own goose egg, but does not have an incubator.
Thanks so much everyone the others are doing fine. We still have one who is sick and walking on her knees. She's not acting lathargic, I just feel bad for the poor girl. Any ideas why she's so much worse?

A few of my marans (about a year old) have what looks like diarrhea. Their feces are liquidy and cover their backsides. One of the hens is having trouble walking. We have not changed their diet and their water and food containers are clean. Any ideas what's wrong with them? I don't want to lose...

We have a small space heater in the coop that works double duty. Not only does it keep the girls warm but it's close enough to the water reservoir to keep their water from freezing. My grandmother used to tell me that chickens get warm from the inside out, which seems to explain why they love...
Ideally, I would get something smaller than a Pekin, but those seem to be the only full grown drakes in my area. Hopefully there will be more of a selection by next spring.
Oh and since y'all raise ducks...do you have problems with your ponds turning green? This is our first year and the pond...
