Between a brutal Winter and the damage that the chickens did at the end of last Summer, my lawn is in seriously sad shape right now.
Are there any chicken-safe products that I can use to help improve the situation?
I have to ask, why the change? I have the Eglu Cube and am now approaching my first winter with my 3 Orpingtons. The Eglu materials explain that the Cube is insulated and good for year-round use. Is there some thought that this is not the case?
The buffs have both been laying eggs daily for quite some time now, while the blue has never laid an egg. She's also quite a bit larger than the other two. What's the deal?!
3 Orpingtons (2 buff, 1 blue). Buffs are laying, Blue has not.
Last week our one Buff went broody. Stopped laying, started trying to stay in the nest box all day, etc.
Because she's been hogging the nest box all day, our other Buff stopped laying. I added a second nest box that is identical...
I badly want an Eglu Cube, and I've yet to find a single person who owns one and doesn't like it. I hope to have one by the end of this Summer (2013).
How many chickens do you have in yours?
How long have you had it now?
Any issues to be aware of?
Helpful tips, etc?
I raised the roost today.
I just went over to check on them (around 10:20 PM), and rather than 2 of them in the nest box, now all 3 were in it. With some poop.
My nest box is a plastic container of some sort, so I took the lid to that container and covered the box. I guess I'll leave that on...
They're alive.
They'll drink out of a bowl of water, but won't touch the nipples. They also love to step right on the bowl, spilling out all of their water.
They also seem fine eating the pellets and grass, but won't touch strawberries, bananas, celery, or anything delicious.
And they love...
A few hours later, they found the food and ate a bit and pecked around the run, but still no water. I moved the bucket from inside the coop to out in the run, near the food. They better drink!
Well, after working on a coop and a run for a while, today I got my chickens. 3 Orpingtons (2 Buff, 1 Blue) that should be roughly 16-18 weeks old I think.
I gave them some Purina pellets and a hanging bucket of water with 2 nipples under it. It's been a few hours and I don't think they've had...

Maybe with hardware cloth over the top of it?
Yeah, I think I'm all about the Buff Orpingtons. Everything I read says that they would be best around my son (a 5 year old with Autism). Probably looking at 3 (or maybe 4) of those.
