Hi,
I have hatched and raised a few ducklings before with no problems. We were given some eggs from a pekin duck. Only one hatched and that one got stuck in its shell. The duckling seemed like it wasn't going to make it at first. It was very weak even after it dried. I had to wipe it with warm...
That is what I was wondering about. I have two or three eggs that are registering about 3 degrees lower than the rest of the eggs that are in the same temp area of the incubator and not in cool spots. I was thinking they might be deceased but am holding out hope for the others still.
HI I've read more than once lately of folks using laser/ infaret thermometers to test eggs that are incubating.
Tell me more please? What are you looking for as far as a temp range? Someone said something about telling if the chick is still alive and just slow to develop/hatch by the temp...
I finally decided. I want to write an article about my struggle over the years hatching turkeys. I have never written an article for here (or anywhere other than school English). So needless to say I am nervous but hoping I can stay inspired and get it done. :)
Looking for your best recommended in the house duckling brooder set ups. What have you found making it easier to keep the mess under control. Pics of your brooders or recommendations of ones you've had and loved?
Tractor Supply Bantam Straight Run... Guesses on ID? Can you give me your guesses on what I have here? I have no idea. 2 have feather feet/legs 2 have clean feet/legs
Am I right in thinking the bottom right of the screen is a silkie? I have no clue on the other 3.
Ha! I was just going to post about the 4 bantams I got from Tractor Supply and hope for some ideas of ID. I guess I will read through the replies you got on yours first and see if any of mine fit the descriptions. :) cute Chicks you have.
Thank you one is doing much better and I have some bantam chicks to keep it company. The one struggling most I have isolated and working on figuring out a protocol to best help it survive and be healthy.
Thank you SA farms I will try that. One of the turkeys is doing well and I bought 4 bantam chicks so it isn't lonely. The one doing the worst I have isolated. There is a clicking noise that I suspect somehow it has a respiratory issue. Everything I see (older posts) says use Tylan for that but...
I bought some mystery bantams today... I can't wait to figure out what I have got. I bought 4 so that the lonely healthy turkey poult I hatched would have some company.
I don't remember if I posted in this thread before. I tried hatching turkey eggs this month. Here is my update Of the turkey eggs it was not a big success... I have 1 who appears to be healthy and doing well pretty blue color. Another yellow turkey who is weak (legs) and has a clicking...
We have new ducklings at our house. I had planned to try to hatch some but then I was in TSC and they had two almost 3 week ducklings marked down to … FIFTY CENTS each because they had so many little ones and those two had been sitting there waiting for a home... I couldn't say no.. LOL.
Of the turkey eggs it was not a big success... I have 1 who appears to be healthy and doing well pretty blue color. Another yellow turkey who is weak (legs) and has a clicking noise. There was another that hatched that was weak and did not make it and one died after pipping before zipping and so...
I had turkey eggs from 2 different sources. A large number quit before fully developing. One died after external pipping before zipping. The first one to hatch died within 24 hours. Of the 2 others that hatched one is gaining strength but one has me quite concerned. It not only seems to have...
