Update! Her comb started filling in again and she started laying every other day or so, but yesterday I noticed there was swollen again and this morning it was crusty. So I used a warm washcloth on it and the hook came out in a large glob! I put Terramycin in it and put her in a hospital bin...
Well here is an updated photo. I was thinking it was smaller, but maybe she is just a little bigger. I hate to spend lots of money on a chick, but maybe I will call around for an avian vet tomorrow. I don't want her to suffer.
I got two EE chicks from my pet chicken one month ago and they both have little poofs on top of their heads as if they have Silkie or polish mixed in. Just wanted to share.
I don't think it's the crop. It's so low. And its not her whole belly. if you look at the last picture, it pushes her little fluff to the floor on the right side. It is shaped like a large fat pill or bean and its pretty hard.

Anybody know what this bean shaped tumor looking thing is? This austrolorp is about three weeks d from my pet chicken. It may have been there the whole time. I had a chick with perosis in the same batch and that kind of took most of my attention. But the mass has grown. I thought it...
Well thanks for your advice. Good points made. I'm a newbie to hatching. The two eggs that couldn't unzip by themselves turned out to be two chicks that both have a missing outer toe on each foot and can't stand up. I will have to cull them if they make it through the night.
I don't think momma...
The one pictured above was dead when I found it. I had to shield the second hatchling from beak, and assist with the third because she kept pecking at it. The fourth unzipped just fine. So I left 5 and 6 alone for the night at 11 pm. There are three other eggs that are not making and noise or...
Well I got lucky. I assisted the hatch. Yolk was absorbed. Tucked her under momma and took a break. There are two more eggs under her that have pipped. Five total. I can't stay out there all night to assist with the other two if she started to peck them open like she did with this one. And...
I'm double posting this. It's on the broody hen thread too. Kinda freaking out. What happened here? It pipped yesterday afternoon. Nothing at 5:30 this morning. Got home to this. One chicken hatched fine while I was at work. Another just now. Momma was trying to peck at the second one as it came...
This little chick pipped and chirped yesterday. Checked It at 5:30tjis morning. Still a pip. Got home to this. Another egg hatched successfully while I was a work. Second successful hatch just occurred why I covered momma's mouth because she wanted to peck at it. Is it normal for her to peck the...
Day 20 ends with one 1 egg pipped. There was a chirp coming from one of the other eggs but no pip yet. So two definite chicks out of 11 eggs! I really wish I didn't have to work tomorrow! Last time I let my broody hatch, everyone hatched on day 19 and 20. Fingers crossed.
Wish I was more...
Thanks so much for all replies! Peckers is a special girl. She is my 'would be' house chicken. Lol. I can get the eye gel on Monday. I let her sleep in the coop tonight. When I took her outside to get that last pic, she just couldn't help herself! I was amazed at the changes in her comb and...
This is peckers before molting. (Above)
Below is today.
There is some white. It's not really flaky. But I did notice flakes on her wattle today.
I did 1/2 of a ten day wormer about two months ago. It's a local mixture that is supposed to help with laying.
About one month ago I had to treat...
This is Peckers, an ancona. She had this one eye closed this morning when I picked her up. She has been a little distant from flock the past few days. We have a newly matured rooster that could have pecked her. I have her in a hospital pen in the house right now. It's been the same for a couple...
