I've got 6 year old egg layers. My meat birds are about 4 weeks old and still in the brooder. I'm planning on putting my meat birds in with my egg layers at the end of next week. Will that be ok? I don't know how I'll be able to separate them. I only have one coop and run.
I'm putting ACV in my chicks water. They are about 3 weeks old now. Should I keep giving it to them? For how long?
Also. I'm using sand in the run and the coop. Do I need to give them grit also or can they use the sand?
The run that I just built has pallets on edge, then 1x 2 welded wire 4' high. Then I put 1/2 inch weld wire up 2 feet, Then I put an apron of 1 inch chicken wire, 12 inches up and 12 inches out. I then put stone from an old stone wall on top of the apron.
I have weasals and I hope this is over...
Nice. The one I just built is almost like yours. I put pallets on edge, used 1/2" pvc pipe with connectors to make each one 14'. I screwed each end into the pallets. I then used 1/4" carrage bolts to fasten 1 x4's onto the pvc every 2'. I then pulled a tarp over the whole thing. I had put up...
Thanks Clackclack.
The place that I got them from is a very good place but, they had given me 4 x'tra birds to replace some. I'll be giving them a call tomorrow. They had brought in about 600 day olds in one shipment. I'm wondering if anyone else is having a problem with these birds. It makes me...
I'm raising 12 meat birds and 12 layers. Got them about 1 1/2 weeks ago. Have them all together in the brooder. I lost 2 chicks right off. Then about 3 days later I lost a 3rd. Now today I lost the 4th one :( ! All of them are meat birds. The last 2 seemed like they were ok. Then all of a sudden...
I'm building my coop right now and I'm to the point of building the nesting boxes. They will be projecting out the back wall of the coop. I'll be putting them in between the studs that are 16 o.c. How high and deep should they be?
Thanks in advance!!
Thanks for the info. I did alittle search and found some info. I'm thinking that I'll try raising them together and having 2 feeders. If this doesn't work than I'll divide them and keep the meaties just in the run.
I was wondering if anyone has raised meat and layer together? Have you had any problems with the layers bullying the meat birds?
I'm planning to get 12 chicks of each (White Jumbo Cornish Cross Broilers and Golden Comets). They will be raised together from day old. They won't be free range but...
