    Free ranging owners

1 dozen chickens on 3.5 acres but we like them to stay in the front 2 acres. Used to be coyotes out back, haven't seen nor heard any in months but that doesn't mean they aren't out there. The hens like to be down by the barn or in the carport during rain or under the front porch with the...

Anybody else regret their initial coop design?

Our hen house is a cool old cedar shed with stained glass windows and a deck and the dozen hens & 1 rooster fit comfortably. I still want to remove the current layer boxes and put in a smaller one thats easier to get the eggs out of or let us get the eggs without going in to the shed. I...

Chicks pecking each others tail area

Im feeding them the starter feed and fresh water. The box is huge so thats not a problem but maybe they need to be able to see out? They arent fully feathered yet so can't be without the heat light.

Chicks pecking each others tail area

I have 6 Barred Rock two week old chicks. This morning I noticed there are 3 with bloody spots along the tops of thier tails where the others are pecking them. I have them in a large box with a heat light, feed & water. What should I do to make them stop pecking each other?
