    Chicken attacked by raccoon

Yes, we live in the middle of nowhere, so we plan on dispatching the raccoon immediately. I have one of the typical live traps you get at tractor supply, so hopefully that will work. I'll try the fish oil, thanks!

    Chicken attacked by raccoon

Last night my husband woke me to the sounds of an animal in distress. We thought something was attacking our cat and so we went out with flashlights and guns to protect our pet. We heard a distressed chattering at the fence line, saw our cat way on the other side of the yard watching us, and...

Severely hen pecked with a torn vent

Yesterday I came home to find that one of my buff orpington hens had been attacked by the other hens in her coop. My birds free range from just before sunrise to right before sundown everyday. I believe one of my older barred rock hens attacked her because she wanted "her spot" to lay an egg. I...

Scaly leg mites, bumblefoot, or just a broken toe?

Scaly leg mites, bumblefoot, or just a broken toe?

One of my barred rocks went suddenly lame 2 days ago. She was fine in the morning, but was limping in the evening. Her left inside toe is swollen. I've attached a couple of pics to show what it looks like. There is no scab or open wound visible on the swollen area. Her scales are not lifted...

    Painted Brooder

I personally would not let the chickens peck at the paint. It looks very cute, and would be a shame to scrape off the paint job or have to put a cover of some type either on the outside or inside of the box. However, if you give your chicks a chance, they are going to peck at the designs...you...

    Umbilical hernia???

Two days ago I received 5 3 day old baby barred rock pullets. I checked all 5 for pasty butt, and they were all fine except for one little girl. I thought she had pasty butt, so I soaked her little rear in warm water, and then gently used a wet wash cloth to rub at the poo. However, I quickly...
