    Entire Flock Attacked... help please!

It sounds like the raccoon I have attacking my flock. He's apparently confused that he's supposed to be nocturnal, and has killed eight out of our fourteen chickens. I have not managed to catch him yet, but the remaining girls seem to be staying close to the dogs, and I race out any time I hear...

    raccoons during the day

Thanks for the advice. We have a run where the girls were placed after the first few disappeared. However that has not stopped the bugger from continuing his chicken feast. I added extra hardware cloth to the bottom of the coops, added screws to strengthen the chicken wire to the run, and added...

    raccoons during the day

I'm about ready to quit chicken raising. We've spent a good deal of money on buying and building coops, managed to raise 12 babies, and now something is eating my chickens. Over the last few days they've been disappearing. Only once did I see any left over evidence, something killed one and must...

    what could.be causing this?

I am absolutely sick to my stomach right now. Something is making off with our chickens and I can't figure out out. We were letting them free range, and one evening I noticed we were down to 11 of our younger birds down from 12. I was sad, but we were prepared that this could happen free...

    settle a debate

The first two are the little coop for our two big girls, the second two are the unfinished big coop, I asked dh, and he's building a peaked roof two feet tall with Windows in the side of the roof for added ventilation.

    settle a debate

We were able to build a today into the smaller coop we built, the older girls seem quite comfortable there. We vented through windows and an angled roof on the little coop, we have windows in the larger coop, I'm not sure what roof is going into that one, dh was thinking a peaked one with an...

Wow cool to know. They have a large run for the big two now the like one are only 3 weeks and 4 1/2 weeks now. We intend to let them free range, but the chickens are to chicken to go out of the run, although Houdini enjoys an occasional voyage to the doorway

    settle a debate

We are building a third coop for our girls, we have 14 all together. 12 red sex, and two something else, supposedly something that lays blue eggs. The newest coop is 8'x 4' and 2' high. That's only big enough for a max of 8 chickens right? My dh feels that it's too big for the six we plan on...

Putting baby chicks with older chicks?

We had two sets of six a week and a half apart, I was a nervous wreck when we introduced the two sets together, but they've done awesome together for the last few weeks, however we also have two hens that are 8-9 weeks, and they did not care for their meeting, but that was an accidental quick...

can you tell me what these are?

I'm thinking that these are all going to be the same type of chicken, except perhaps for the whitish one? I was hoping to have an assortment but that's alright.
