Six week old Cochin roo or pullet?

I think the black one might be roo. The way he has no tail still and stands more upright. But he’s generally wimpy so who knows... I really appreciate everyone’s help. I need to rehome Roos and I figure better early than late as it’s right back there in my coop these days.

Funny, it was all white and splashy originally (born almost white) but I think you’re right. Light blue!

Six week old Cochin roo or pullet?

For consideration I’ve got two six week old large fowl Cochins that my broody hatched. The splash one was born almost a day after the black but feathered in very quickly and has plenty of tail while the black feathered in so slowly that I thought it would never happen (it’s still peach fuzz...

Mom’s hens saddle bald - no rooster.

She definitely sees the BR picking on the others during the day and pulling out back feathers. She’s just bought a higher protein feed and is ordering saddle covers for the two plucked hens. She’s also cleaned out the coop, deep dusted DE on everything, dusted the birds, provided them with a bin...

Mom’s hens saddle bald - no rooster.

Not mounting just picking on. The food is Purina for egg layers and the space is large - about 25x25 run for the three of them and the coop is a little bigger than 4x4.

Mom’s hens saddle bald - no rooster.

I googled the Ivermectin. It seems to need a prescription? There’s no vet in mom’s area that sees chickens for under $200 (exotic pet). Any ideas where I can get this or is there a substitute? Thanks so much

Mom’s hens saddle bald - no rooster.

greetings and thanks in advance for all advice. My mom has three hens that were hatched last November and began laying in the last month or so. She recently noticed the Rhode Island Red going bald in the saddle and tried some DE and then blue Pick No More (pic after DE). She handles the birds a...

Buff Orpington Has Red Legs and Feet

Just noticed this in my Buff and panicked but thankfully found this thread. She’s a broody and has been caring for the (adopted) chicks she hatched for almost 4 weeks and just began a molt last week. Yay! Seems like all hormones. Thank you all for posting this!

Sexing two 6 week old Black Copper Marans

Greetings! So I did a straight run order of several breeds and of 16 chicks and sadly I ended up being able to really quickly weed out 13 roosters by 2 weeks. It’s amazinf how quickly some develop pink combs! Of my black copper Marans, 5 of 7 were definitely Roos early on (the last two pics are...

Mama Heating Pad troubles... quick question - please help!

So my babies are two weeks old and have been under a large mother hen pad I made with the larger sunbeam that has only low med and high setting. Inside when it’s on medium they sleep under it with half or less of their bodies sticking out (too warm I guess). Tonight it’s supposed to get down to...

    Mosaic Chickens!

Ohhh they are GORGEOUS! Do yours have the blue skin color? I am interested in some mosaics but haven’t found anyone that has grown out GFF chicks that actually have the turquoise ears and blue skin that Brain has mandated the breed he created has. And I’m on the rare breeds FB page so a lot...

    Gold Feather Farms Reviews?

Hi, I purchased a Swedish Flower Hen pullet from them in October, 2016. The Swedish was originally from union hill (fanstastic customer service but had sold her lot of those birds to Gold Feather. The pullet was gorgeous and came with a guarantee to be female. Fast forward to December 2016 and I...

Chicken has weird forked beak - home remedies?

Greetings All, So I’ve recently noticed that one of my 10 month old pullets has a bizarre forked beak. Which is new as about a month ago (last time I clipped wings) it looked perfectly normal. She otherwise seems fine - active, eating and in a full messy molt with some of her coopmates. I did...
