I believe I may have the dumbest chickens in the history of all chickens
They have a light. I trail the food up into the coop and I see some of them walking up and down the ramp so I KNOW they know where it is...
I took out the big girls. My rooster is a kind and gentle old guy, and thus far...
I have a light and I segregated even the naughty little banty... I had them in the bottom of the coop as babies and I might have to just bite the bullet and open it back up... But my ranch manager husband just wants to quit building and have them go into the nice coop he already built! Lol
I gave them... In hindsight I did ALL the work of raising them and probably should have at least received a token payment... But my "ranch manager" aka husband was annoyed that I ordered so many:)
I put all the food in the coop... and i noticed my little silkie getting all crazy at the "little" girls... (she is smaller then they are now, but they think she is mean) I really want to keep her. She is my first chicken and is still laying beautiful little white eggs (she is 5!) damn...
and oops... I forgot how forums work :) all updated now...I will try and upload a pic later today. The silkie sleeps in the rafters of the coop... do not ask me how she gets there... she is tiny but fierce.
I am in Idaho... just outside of Boise. And we only had a flock of 3 when we built it. There is a 10x20 run and all around the coop is predator fenced. They only sleep in the coop part. most of the current coop is a mini "barn" right now. It CAN be added to... I was just hopeful that we...
Our coop is complicated... lol... it is a shed that is 12x5 but it is actually very tall (not sure of the exact height but it has a loft on one side that needs a ladder (it is where I keep straw, feed, meds etc) so the actual coop is on the second level and is about 4 feet off the ground...
I have 3 older hens and a really nice rooster. I needed a new flock and I have a beautiful group of 13 chickens (Brahma, americanas, gold sex link, silver wyandotte and buff orpingtons) I took all the advice on here and put them in the bottom of the coop in a makeshift area while they were...
hold on... this may get complicated...
I had a perfect flock. A couple of americaunas, orpingtons and one adorable banty (black silkie) A friend made me an offer I couldn't refuse and took my older girls (3year olds this year) because they wanted instant eggs and didn't want to bother with...
I have 2 straight run black silkies (bantam sized) who are about as cute as they can be. I have NO idea if they are roosters or hens. they were hatched in early may. (maybe 15 weeks-ish) I will try and post a few pictures tomorrow but I just wanted to know what kind of clues to look for in...
funny!!!
they are smart little wierdos... I didn't realize how "pet-like" they would be. They are pretty predator safe in the run (i HOPE) I just want them tucked in at night especially!
makes me feel better that they are "normal" I do worry about my silkies... I think they are so cute and super fun... but they are kinda "dim" in comparison to the rest of the group. They have a ramp but the more I look at it the more I think it needs a "revamp" for the silkies:) they can...
My husband spent a bunch of time and energy indulging my little chicken problem. I have a wonderful healthy little flock of 2 silkies, 2 auracanas and 2 buff orpingtons. they were hatched in very early may this year and I have had them since then...
My coop is a big box on legs (basically)...
oh good;) I think things will go well. but I do not think my silkies will ever be integrated, they are TINY;) I will try to keep the 12 year old occupied today and let things work themselves out.
I have read some GREAT information!!! so most of my questions have already been answered;) but...
I have 2 older chickens (hatched early april) and 6 younger (hatched early may) BIG run and coop. My plan was to put the baby group out first into the run and THEN the big girls. however, my...
I am not a chicken/rooster expert... But I am an ER nurse;) and I have seen some nasty cuts and resulting infections from being "attacked" by a rooster... So forgive me for butting in, but they actually CAN hurt you...
sorry...
edited to say that I would have a hard time culling anything...
