    The Sussex thread!

Yeah, I'm on most of them haha. It's a shame she doesn't do them anymore, I love my SS. I've been breeding them for a couple of years now:) Izzy

Hi John, I see you post pictures of your birds on The New Poultry Pages on facebook from time to time. You take some great photos. Dorothy in particular is beautiful, what breeder is she from?

    show quality speckled sussex ??

Thanks Snowbird, sorry for not getting back to you sooner. I've been super busy! BokBok my young lad is the best coloured male I've had in a long time, I know he's got the odd white wing feather but it hasn't been reflected too badly in his offspring which on the whole have come out very well...

    The Sussex thread!

I have 3 Speckled Sussex males (Giles, BokBok and Marvin) to 13 females and they're all lovely to me and to each other. We haven't had any problems what so ever. However a couple of years ago I had one nasty Speckeld Sussex Cockerel ( Bernard) who had 3 hens and he spurred me constantly to the...

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Would like pictures, it's not unusual for SLW not to show any comb/wattle development for a long time. They have rose combs, which if they're true wyandottes their combs should be completely flat and run along the top of the head - protruding very little. Like the combs on these bird diagrams: ...

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Your birds appear to have the correct heads and leg colour, but unfortunately they lack wyandotte type ( see the diagram below for what the correct wyandotte type should be). The long back, high tail isn't correct and depth of the chest is lacking in both the cockerel and hen and there tails are...

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

Thanks! I've had to work really hard on type the last few years because the British birds over here tend to have rubbish type and good lacing. I grow mind up on quail/game pellets which are high in protein, so that they can feather more quickly.... otherwise they take forever! I usually take...

    The Silver Laced Wyandotte Thread

They are huge for 3 months!! You must have had some great growing conditions! They large or bantam? I keep large, and my girls legs aren't very yellow either... not really sure what I can do about it though without getting new blood in. Here's the pullets I used this year, photos taken back in...

5 or 6 months maybe? Great yellow legs by the way :)

    Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

The splash is male, and the dark blue a female :)

    show quality speckled sussex ??

Thank you goatman303 and Sunflowergirl, I bred the original birds to a very poor cockerel because there was nothing else available at the time. I prefer my birds to have more black and mahogany colouration. Would like to know what the experts have to say - I remember when they critiqued the...

    show quality speckled sussex ??

Hello again from the UK, I haven't posted here for a couple of years. Saw a picture of one of my old hens come up a couple of pages ago :) Not sure how much better I have done with the SS, good colouring has been a struggle with the offspring and hoping my you lad fills out a little yet - have...

    Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Thanks guys, I don't intentionally breed for Splash but I like to keep a few - they are a nice variation of the BLRW :)

    Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

She's about 9 months old so not fully matured quite yet, but very nearly! :)

    Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

I suppose that makes sense, given that Splash and Black are both deviations from the Blue colour - I think our British names are much simpler! :p

    Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

In the UK we just call them splash laced wyandottes, however we also just call our blues, blue laced wyandottes instead of blue laced red wyandottes! I would imagine they would be called "splashed laced red" - given that they are splash and not blue so wouldn't really suit the " splash blue...

    Russian Orloffs

Where the hackle feathers on my orloff are meant to be white or black, they appear to have a slight orangey/yellowy tinge to them, in this case because she's a little grub! However if they were this colour and she was pristine after being bathed, it would be because she has "red leakage". Red...

    Blue Laced Red Wyandotte THREAD!

Looks blue to me, Splash would be a tad lighter :)
