i will be facing this problem in VA this winter - new at chickens. have a chicken tractor so not sure if i want an extension cord running through my hores pasture. for the horses in winter, i fill a 100 gallon tub with 250' of hosing, then have to drain the hose to prevent it from freezing...
i am in the sticks of VA, but only could find California Hatchery with the type of chicks I wanted - seven particular breeds. Shipped in April and two died since they did not put a heat pack in the box, also did not deliver two I ordered, but doubled up on one breed and included a different one...

We use this product in our horse feed which kills fly larva in their manure. Does an excellent job in reducing the fly population during the summer. The company has never done testing with chickens scratching thru the manure, they "assume" it would be safe.
