I have had chickens for a few years now. I figured out that the botulism came from rotten feed and I rectified that situation rather quickly.
I haven't had much issue with the pigs at all. Very hearty and fun to raise.
The rabbits have been a very steep learning curve. I read so much about...
Hello,
This spring is turning out to be a lot harder than I thought it would be.
I have a flock of 30-35 chickens are many different breeds. I have 2 golden buff hens, 2 RIR hens, 2 black sex link hens, 1 blue americauna hen, 6 americauna hens, 2 japanese bantam hens, 1 mille fleur d'uccle...
I have three bantams that are small enough to fit through the holes in my fence so they are not safe from predators. I fear for them so I would rather they go somewhere where they can be safe. The picture shows all three of them minus the brown frizzle who was placed yesterday. The black roo and...
I actually have an old bell hanging by the back door and ring it when I have treats for them. They come running from all sides of the yard. Some have even gotten brave enough to try and venture through the doggie door ... I'm waiting to wake up with a chicken on my chest one morning
I found the culprit or at least one of them. There was a coyote just sitting outside my fence last night in the same spot that had been dug to gain access the last time. A few .22 rounds scared him away but no permanent damage
I am so upset. I have never had problems with predators before where I am at. I saw a hawk once but the dog was enough to deter it from taking any of my little flock.
Last night, it seems, something came in and got one of my full grown buffs, 2 full grown barred rocks, and a full grown banty...
FizzyZow,
He was filler from the hatchery to the feed store where I bought my bantams this year. Guess I got really lucky picking him out. Now I'm looking for a hen for him.
Thanks everyone for filling me in on this little guy.
We got this guy as filler from the feed store when we bought our other bantams. He is like nothing I've ever seen before so maybe the great minds here can figure him out.
His legs have feathers that jet way out and he is also feather-footed.
Thanks
Lauraloo ... I can't tell by your pick but do you have a cover over your pen or is it open for the ducks to fly out?
I'm worried about the muddy mess as well but I think that my area might be large enough that it would take my 3 ducks a long time to turn into a mud pit
That looks like a great idea. What size PVC did you use and how did you attach it to the metal posts? I have round wood posts so I guess I could strap the PVC pipe to the posts. How sturdy is the roof? I'm in Central Florida and it gets really windy here especially during the summer months.
That enclosure looks great. It looks like a dog crate that they sell for a large amount of money at the local big box home store.
The fencing that I have is the small welded wire fencing which is 4' high. I found some bird netting to go over the enclosure now but it will only be 4' high which...
I'm going to have to make an enclosure for the 3 ducks that I have and I was wanting to ask a few questions to the knowledgable people here.
I'm going to make a small duck house to accomodate them but I keep reading that you have to lock then up at night. Why is this?
I'm going to give them a...
I was told not to put them in water until they feather out. Something about the feathers and oil and the such. I placed them in the bath once and they came out they were shivering.
That's great ... I'll set them outside and see how they do.
I would let them free range when they are older but I have 3 GP and I don't know how they would do with them.
They are between 3-4 weeks old so we'll see how they do outside. Thanks.
