Keep her seperated so she can chill even if she seems better. They will try to keep up with flock and pretend. Chickens are pretty hearty, keep it sprayed, give her water a boost.
Could also be the heat though i imagine it's been hot before this. You might also be sure nest box is dry and clean and they just arent laying elsewhere.
Like people they sometimes get hurt. I also had a hen who at three started limping and hopping fresh from the coop one AM, and I thought stroke? Merks? Never found out . She lived to be 10 hopping and skipping for 7 years.
Omg so terrible. I hope you are reinforcing the run and gave the owners crap. I ended up with a chain link run because of a dumb neighbors Husky. Infuriating.
My 4 year old sex link had diarrahea for a week. Gave her a few baths, kept an eye out. Went downhill rapidly yesterday and today. Had her in cage, she was puffed up, head down, not eating or drinking, could barely stand . About an hour ago I heard flailing in cage (before you think you...
This is a sign of sickness, or yes could be something she ate. Cant hurt to isolate her. Some vitamins electrolytes if you have them. Since I dont bring chickens to vets cant comment on that. Ive found chickens to be pretty hardy and they often bounce back. one of mine ate a lizard or a toad...
She doesnt look to distressed...the noise is interesting. Ive had plenty of hens with respiratory issues but they usually looked sick, or did this wierd neck in the air gasping thing if making noise. If it were me I would isolate her just to be safe . I've always got bird antibiotic around...
I once got down to two girls and they were best buddies. So yes 2 can be ok. So I would just wait it out. 1 is more problematic but you cross that bridge when it happens. I got down to 1, and she just hung with the dogs until the chicks grew up.
Glad your hens are getting out of prison. Chain link will look better over time, but it has too big holes for babies. I ended making a cage within a cage for chicks. I have bird netting over the top of chainlink. Rural florida half the year so bears, bobcats, coyotes. I have three dogs so that...
I dont know much about antibiotic restrictions in NZ but I buy pigeon and fish antibiotics online in usa. Youd have to google it. I dont take chickens to the vet, but i get it. They get to be pets sometimes.
you cant go wrong by giving her a soak in sone epson salts, spraying her after with an antimicrobe spray like vetericn, not sure on spelling, and some antibiotic cream. Make sure coop is clean. I would isolate her on some clean bedding so she doesnt have to walk around pretending to be well...
I got down to one older hen once and she was obviously bereft when her sister died. Just standing in run staring into space. They def have feelings. She took to hanging with the dogs on the porch. I moved her into house in the kitchen at night. That perked her up. I bought some pullets...
Poop doesn't look too bad, white stuff is what passes for pee in a chicken. I wash them in Sink with a sprayer or a bucket. Had a few hens get fly strike. You have not lived tell you picked maggots out of a butt. Sometimes it just happens.
I'm going with fox. My old neighbors free ranged with no fence , birds roosting in trees, and I would see a fox go by every morning for a week like clock work at dawn when I went to work . Not sure if they wised up or started locking them up. I free range but inside a stock aid fence, but I also...
I had a coyote do this. I heard commotion and saw him book it over fence with hen. . I chased him with a shovel. All I got back was a head and a foot. Coyotes are excellent fence hoppers.
