I'm hoping to keep him! He has grayish green eyes. All of the other EEs we got this year are dark so I'm curious what their progeny would look like. He seems like a nice boy so far but this will be our first time having any roosters. We have more roos than we can keep so I hope this guy will...
New to having BLRW this year. Had SLW last year. There was one I really thought was going to be a rooster but ended up not. Are there any tricks to sexing the BLRW? I have one that is developing a bit of waddle and red in the comb at about 6.5 weeks. All five of ours are splash if that helps.
Hi! This is the first year we've had more than one Easter Egger and I have one pullet/roo that I am curious about. The others are feathering out in a consistent pattern and don't have much of the way in bumps or colors on their combs. I know the black and white ones are particularly hard and the...

This is our first winter with chickens as well. Being in the south I'm not too worried about snow, just the occasional ice storm. Our coop and enclosed run can move on wheels so we'll probably reorient it to get them some good southern exposure. We'll need to close up some of the vents at the...
She finally started laying again, albeit irregularly. The shells are very speckly and gritty like her egg shell gland hasn't worked out the kinks yet. I do want to try the old timer's approach - thanks for sharing that!
Hmm, that's an interesting thought. At least yesterday I don't think that's what was happening - when she had just come out of the coop there was no one in the nesting boxes and her egg was in the run. I don't know about other times though.
Do they start the process in the nesting box? That's what's perplexing to me - she spends a long time in the nesting box but then the egg ends up somewhere else. I'm curious if she's actually laying it there or moving it after it's laid!
Yep, they've got fake eggs in each of the nesting boxes. She spends a lot of time in the box but then it ends up somewhere else. And she didn't used to do this.
Our Faverolle spends a good amount of time in the nesting box but then actually lays her egg in the coop or in the run. This has happened four or five times recently. She used to lay in the box itself. Once she is done she leaves and doesn't spend excessive time in the box. Is this broodiness...
That's why it's so peculiar. They have oyster shell mixed into their feed. And a bowl of it out. She's not the lowest in the pecking order and has no problem muscling in on the yogurt bowl when I put it out.
She does not stay in the entire day. She will do the normal 30 minutes or so that the others do when they lay an egg. Then she will go hang with the rest of them.
I made a separate thread about a specific issue but so far no bites so I'll post it here in the hopes that I may get a few bits of wisdom on why our RIR went from laying perfectly for a few weeks to laying terribly for a few weeks...
