LOL I had one of my orps that was determined to set on thin air. I finally put a ziplock baggie of ice cubes under her a couple of times for a couple of days. It worked with her. Not sure if it would work again.
An electric fence is not hard to put up. Just make sure you get a good ground rod. I use electric fences around my beeyards to stop bears. That is a little more complicated to do so a simple wire around the coop/run is easy.

An electric fence wire run around the coop/run about 6 inches off the ground will work wonders to keep dogs, coyote, and any other predators away. If you don't have power available tractor supply has a small solar powered one.
RockerHen Love Love Love your silkies!!!
I have not been on here in a while. LOL I have too many silkie chores to take care of.
Just FYI...I will be teaching a beekeeping class this morning in west Spartanburg. If anyone in Greenville/Spartanburg area needs honey, call and leave a...
I know this is kind of crazy but if you put a group of several different silkies in a pen, they will separate by color unless they were raised together from hatch. You might want to get a black or dark blue to put with this one. Also if you add several to a group they seem to get along better...

Amy Any of the testers in SC can do your Pullorium test. I could have went to Columbia and learned how to do AI but decided I didn't really want to. The training was offered to us at one time.
Amy To show in NC you have to have AI done every 6 months. Pullorium testing can be done at shows (I think they still do it at shows...Matt would know). If you are not NPIP in SC it will cost to have AI done. If you are NPIP there is no charge for AI testing.

Amy Phillips is the hatching expert. She has probably hatched more eggs than anyone else in SC.
This is just my 2 cents worth. I use the dry hatch method. It works best for me. In the winter I have to add water day 1-18 because our heat keeps the humidity at 16%. If it is between 20% and...
Good luck to everyone that is going to Barnwell show.
I will be at the State Farmers Market in Greenville on Rutherford Road selling honey tomorrow from 7-noon. Hope to see a few BYC folks there.
