Thanks for your replies! I've got some close up shots now - does this make a difference?
Black araucana:
These two are both the same chick - this is the one I'm hoping is a girl:
Lavender araucana:
Sablepoot:
I've tried and tried but they never stand still! At least three of them have some pink in their combs - is that a sure sign of being a boy at this age? Also they all seem pretty upright... :/
Hi,
I would be enormously grateful for any thoughts on the gender of my five week old chicks - one sablepoot and three (English) bantam araucanas. I have a horrible feeling that they may all be boys but I would really appreciate any thoughts...
Thanks,
Lucy
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Well I've put the chick back under one of the hens - the hen didn't seem to mind so fingers crossed! I really hope it works - despite being three hours old this one seems to be the loudest chick in the world so I didn't fancy keeping it in the house...
I've got two LS bantams which have been brooding side by side. They are completely inseparable so I thought this arrangement might work. Anyway, today is hatching day and earlier four eggs were pipping. I heard some loud cheeping just now and looked in the coop to see that both broodies are now...
This time a year ago I had three hens. Now up to nine including some chicks hatched a few weeks ago by a broody. When the chicks were hatched ALL the other hens went broody. None of them have snapped out of it so I've sent off for some hatching eggs. Meant to get 6 but got a bit carried away...
Hi,
I have four chicks, three weeks old, and was wondering if anyone would like to hazard a guess as to whether they are boys or girls! Two are light sussex, one is supposed to be light sussex but has darker wings so could be a sussex crossed with something else, and the little black one is a...
Thanks! What worries me is that it's not just vicious - it seems to be behaving very repetitively, continually alternating between attacking its mother and diving under her feet. It's doing this virtually the whole time and I feel like it may be 'not quite right'...
Hello,
I'm raising chicks for the first time and I was wondering if anyone could help with a question. I have five chicks, ten days old, being raised by a hen and one of them has started behaving strangely - it keeps attacking the mother hen, flying up at her aggressively and then getting...
All five eggs hatched out so it appears that the cool hour and a half didn't have any negative effects - hooray! Now to find a way to tear myself away from watching the chicks...
Thank you - fingers crossed! I am really hoping we will get some chicks, particularly as one of the eggs was laid by another pekin which has since been taken by a fox :(
Hello,
I was just wondering if anyone could help me with a hatching question. I've got a pekin sitting on some eggs - we're on day 18 - but for reasons I won't bore you with she became separated from her eggs for an hour and a half this afternoon. She's sitting on them again now but I'm just...
