    Losing chicks after lockdown

I'm frustrated..... I have hatched my own eggs, and eggs from other sources, several times. m,y hatch rate has never been very good, maybe 25%...... What confuses me is that going into lockdown the majority of my eggs look super healthy and the embryos are moving vigorously...... Then something...

Day 23.... And still no pips

I did what you suggested and there was no sign of life .... The chick still hadn't absorbed the yolk yet and it was so big there was no room left for it in the shell.... Incubation round 2 will begin on Sunday so wish me luck! Also have you or anyone else had any luck converting a lg9300...

Day 23.... And still no pips

So i did the float test this morning and there was no movement from one of the eggs so i candled it. The air cell is huge and the chick is clearly out of room. I saw what looked to be a shadow in the air cell. Could this be a result of the air cell pulling away from the egg since it has been...

Day 23.... And still no pips

I will just chalk it all up to rookie mistakes. I bought another digital thermometer and hygrometer as well. Great idea with the easter egg full of water! I have my fingers crossed we will see something. Even with out chicks hatching the process has been very educational for my daughter...

Day 23.... And still no pips

This is our first try at incubating eggs. It is actually a project for my daughters homeschool science curriculum. Anyway..... We set 9 eggs. All were fertilized upon egg disection which is a positive point I suppose, but all but 2 have died in the shell. The 2 remaining eggs are at...

    duck gone broody

Mine was only about 7 months. She was a great momma and my drake wasn't mean at all when the ducklings were placed outside when fully feathered.

    duck gone broody

She is actually pulling down to help keep the eggs warm, this helps in distributing humidity and helping to insulate while.she is off the nest. I wouldn't worry about the others. They would t harm a broody or her eggs. The only issues u might have is with the other female laying get her eggs I...

    duck gone broody

Kemele, My female went broody in november. She got off the eggs every day to go for a swim and eat. All of her eggs hatched except for one e that had no activity whatsoever. The problem I faced with allowing momma to raise them was that the ducklings grow so quickly and can't all get...

    duck gone broody

We couldn't take the mess any more so Merry Christmas to me the ducks went outside today with their momma and daddy. Everyone is getting along splendidly. The babies are following every move momma makes and she is perfectly happy with that it seems. My drake is very patient with them as well...

    duck gone broody

. They are 4 weeks now and will be 5 weeks Saturday. Do you think if I moved them outside with a heat lamp in the coop at night they would be OK? They aren't fully feathered yet, but are close.

    Brooding Ducks Ideas

I did the same but added a puppy pad in the feeding area. I am brooding 7 ducklings right now and this is the cleanest and easiest to clean it has ever been.

    duck gone broody

It is working very well right now. All I had to do this morning was change the puppy pad out. Much better than the stinky soggy mess it usually is.

    duck gone broody

Conquered may have been too strong of a word, but this is my setup and you can see the mess is consolidated on the puppy pad in the feeding area instead of EVERYWHERE... The feeding area is the bottom half of a pet carrier. The sides of it catch the food they sling every time they eat and the...
