Success!!!! Hatching day has come and gone. I have 4 little chickpea to show for it
pshewww! It's lie waiting to give birth!
This time around we tried the dry hatch method with the little computer fan my hubby installed. I put some more eggs in the day after setting my first ones. Everyone who hatched, did so right on their due dates, so I'm guessing the temps were still good.
Upon candling I had 2 that were not fertilized, and a couple of blood rings. I am finding that most of my deaths are occurring very late in the incubation process. Any ideas on what could be happening? My girls are fed layer feed but are also fed scraps and allowed to free range throughout our property. The boys are fed chick starter, so I think they are fairly healthy birds.
I have some cream leg bars and double laced blue barnevelders that I would like to breed, but I don't want to waste eggs in an incubator until I can get my hatch rates up. Thanks for any ideas!!
