awww...so sorry about your little Dottie!! As far as my roo goes, he's still the same. One of my friends saw him and said it looked like it might be his crop off to the side. I still don't have any answers but he's acting fine so we just let him be him.
My heart goes out to you Eve
I have a question for ya At what age do you introduce the younger hens with the older ones? My babies will be 3 mos old in June and I have 2 older hens that I've tried to integrate in the new run we built. I understand the older ones will try to establish a pecking order with the babies but...
What breed are these? They are very sweet and sociable but they have puffy feathers on their cheeks right under their eyes. They are twice as big as my pullets which are all the same age.
My little guy Angelo
is about 3 mos old and about a month ago I noticed a lump on the right side of his neck above his shoulder. He eats fine and he's crowing...well, as good as a 3 mo old can =). He just looks like he's lopsided. But he runs and flaps around but the lump makes him look...
Yes Eve it is bony. At first it looked like it might be a cyst but when I felt around it was hard. He's trying to cockadoodle and it sounds so funny, like he just can't quite get it lol. I hope his condition doesn't have anything affect on his cute little voice.
I think I will try the vitamins...
We probably noticed it when he was around 6 wks old. His neck doesn't droop it just looks off to the side because of the lump on his right side above the shoulder. I did look at some articles on wry neck and that doesn't seem to be what he has. But I'm fairly new at raising chickens so I could...
Im so glad to find this post because my Roo has something like what you're describing. He eats, drinks, runs around with the girls, tries to put one of my older hens in place, he seems to be just fine other than that bulge on his right shoulder. The skin underneath isn't scaley or red and...
I have a one-eyed scissor beak. She's about 10 wks old and eats fine at the moment. She's the same size as the other hens and gets around just like the others. The upper beak is starting to grow longer than the lower and I was wondering if I could file the tip to help her out some. She does have...
I have 2 older hens around 2 yrs old and I raised 10 baby's that are now about 7-8 wks old. I had them in a smaller coop inside the run so the older hens would get used to them being around. They cackled when they went near the baby's but nothing alarming. So I moved the little coop out into the...
I'm hoping someone can tell me what's happening to my best laying hen Starbrite. She has been bullying only 1 in the flock. Starbrite bonks Isabelle in the head every morning when they come out of the coop to eat, pecks and chases her all the time but never the others. Starbrite layed eggs all...
My hens LOVE the rain. That's when they get busy scratching looking for worms, which they love. Hubby and I were planting tomato plants the other day and all of them were standing in a line waiting for us to toss them the grubs and worms we came across. It's so funny to watch the others try to...
The days are getting shorter but we haven't had a time change yet. So they are getting about 9-10 hours of daylight. They usually lay in the mornings and sometimes before 2pm.
I am so new at raising my 3 hens that I'm not sure why all 3 of them just stopped laying..period! 1 is molting I think because of all the feathers I've been finding and I've seen her shake them off. But the other 2, not sure what's going on. I read the article posted previously and none of those...
I was wondering that myself. My run currently has grass in it and the hens haven't cleared any of it out so I have to go in and weed whack it down. I live in a snowy winter area and not sure what to do about the snow on the grass in the winter. The coop is pretty good size and not sure if...
