Can a handicapped rooster and hens get along?

Knuckles started crowing 2 weeks ago and is the proud leader of the flock! He rounds up the girls when it's time to head back from free ranging and he keeps everyone in line. The girls have accepted him 100% ! I love to hear him communicating with them and how quickly they respond.... Amazing!!

Can a handicapped rooster and hens get along?

Just wanted to give an update on Knuckles. We decided to give him full access to the run and coop and put the aggressive hens in the smaller wired off section of the run. We had 5 hens in there and now we are down to 3! The worst one, Skittles, has failed miserably to accept him and continues to...

Can a handicapped rooster and hens get along?

Knuckles went right up the ramp into the coop last night. Nobody bothered him until this morning when they got bored around 6:30 am and then the same 2 hens went after him. He's on his half of the run now along with Sweetie. He tried to mount her so at least he's doing what he's supposed to!

Can a handicapped rooster and hens get along?

He sleeps on the coop floor every night... Right in the middle of the coop. When he goes in just before dark they don't bother him... It's just at daylight when they are all out in the run and mostly 2 of the aggressive hens. I don't think he can hop up on a roost and not hurt himself.

Can a handicapped rooster and hens get along?

Knuckles cannot roost because one foot it turned up, kinda like when Italians say manga manga and the other one the toes are wrapped .... I'm amazed at how well and fast he can move but still cannot roost... Only on his dreams! I will put sweetie with him and see how they do..,,, the refuge does...

Can a handicapped rooster and hens get along?

Hi Members! I really need some advice here. My family and I recently adopted a handicapped rooster with curled toes named Knuckles. We saw him at a local animal refuge and I immediately fell madly in love with him and adopted him. We currently have 11 hens that range from one year to 2 years...

Training chickens to go in at night...

Congrats on getting your girls moved outside.... And as you know, the fun starts now! Lol I've found that we wanted our girls in before they were ready and that lead to a lot of running around after them. We finally decided to wait until they were all in the coop and then would close the ramp...

Does every flock have a complainer?

Yep! Our Whiney-hiney is MOCHA, our Rhode Island Red! She complains when I open the man door to the house, when I don't open the man door, when she sees us in the yard, whencer stand at the back door, when she's free ranging, when she's awake!!!!!! No pleasing that woman but she was our first...

The Tetra Tint thread.. (Photos, info) ❤

Awe... She's beautiful!!!! I'm thinking what we bought as tetra tints are actually leghorns. Hubby discovered blue/green ears yesterday and so far white eggs from both of my babies daily. I just looked out the back door and one of them, probably Houdini, levitated above the raised nesting house...

Nothing from ours yet either. They are getting red combs but compared to the golden comets we got at the same time they are way smaller. I doubt we will see eggs before the next few weeks. They still amaze us with their nutty behavior! One of ours saw a bird on the roof of the run and then out...

The Tetra Tint thread.. (Photos, info) ❤

They look exactly like the tetra tints we purchased from TSC this spring! They are the quickest things you ever saw or tried to catch!!! We named one hudini because she would always find the tiniest opening in the run and escape! I have amber links, reds and golden comets and the tetras are very...

    Golden comet chicks are smart!

We just got 4 Golden Comet chicks from Tractor Supply 4 weeks ago and I have been feeding them Manna Pro medicated food. My first chicks were fed Dumour starter. These new chicks grew faster, bigger, feathered already at 4 weeks and are SMART!!! Is it the food or the breed? Does anyone know? My...
