Does anyone know what this breed might be? A friend gave him to us. He's very tame and friendly and takes good are of his girls :) Any help would be appreciated.
A few weeks ago I would have sworn our little Wheaten Maran was a hen, now Im not so sure. What do you all think? I have photos of the inside of the wings if that helps anyone.
Tick...tock...tick...tock...tick...tock. That's what my mind is doing waiting for these babies to pip!!! Day 20 Marans and waiting and waiting and waiting. I though surely by today.
I always do it when it is absolutely pitch black out, then I take my brightest, yet smallest flashlight and I put the egg on a toilet paper roll. Then I shine the light right up underneath the egg. You have to look soooo closely for the line. You can't tell by the vessels because the shell is...
She's very pretty! Im also wondering what breeds do not have combs because she doesnt and I had a broody hen who hatched one of her chicks mixed with a wheaten maran roo and came out with a dark brown without a comb also
Her chick:
Yes she lays brown speckled eggs, but they're dark like other marans that I have in my coop. She came from a bunch of chicks that were supposed to be Black Copper Marans
Here's one our babies, the lightest out of the bunch. She's supposed to be a pullet but you never know. I would be ok with a roo, and I'd separate my flock then. Here's a great shot of our 2-3 month old barred rock. I'm falling in love with this breed
I was afraid of that.We have one hen that we bought as a pullet and she was always a little shyer than the rest. This little thing acts just like her. Hope its not a roo. Thanks for the info :-)
