Thanks Guys. At the moment she chases them under the coop so I will place food and water under there for them. My Black Australorp is almost as big as she is now so hopefully it won't take long to settle things down.
I feel like Rodney King "Can't we all just get along?!"
I need help!! I have one hen, a barred rock that is about a year and half old, and she refuses to allow her 6 new sisters in the flock. She will chase them if they are trying to drink or eat and just acts like a bully. The 2 older Easter Eggers I have are fine with their younger sisters, who are...
That is good to know!!! The big girls new coop won't be completed until this weekend so that would be the soonest I could move the peeps. So we'll see. I also have the brooder on my bathroom counter and I must admit it will be nice to get it out of there!! Hahahaha
Thanks DarthCareBear, I think I'll leave mine in the brooder for another week. I do let them out in a small enclosed area for about 15 mins at time and they really enjoy that, but I live in California and the weather has been in the high 70's so they stay nice and warm. I think they can manage...
I need some help!! The brooder I have is getting too small for my 5 - 3 week old chicks. I know I shouldn't put them in a coop until they get their feathers but Im curious if I put a heat lamp in the coop itself and one in the run would it be ok? They would still be by themselves as I don't plan...
I have...
Ginger and Maryanne (one is a RIR and the other is a barred rock)
Thelma and Louise (both EE)
Salt and Pepper (1 is a gold laced wyandotte and the other is a silver laced wyandotte)
Etta and Lucy (Etta is a black Australorp and Lucy is another RIR)
And Peep (a very LOUD Welsummer)
So I'm new at having chicks myself, when I first got chickens last year I got pullets that were large enough to go straight into their coop. I got 2 three day old chicks on Saturday and will be getting 2 more three day old chicks this Thursday, 5 days later. From reading the comments here it...
My girls are pretty spoiled here in California. We are about 10 minutes from the beach so the worse they get is rain! However, they are fair weathered Californian Hens, they won't even come out if it's sprinkling! Hours of entertainment though!!
So I have a crazy question. I believe
I'm only getting an egg a day from my barred rock, RIR shouldn't be too far behind and my 2 EE are just starting to get their combs. I have had 6 eggs of daily laying with the barred rock. And they have all been in perfect clean condition. Should I still...
WOW!! That egg is HUGE for a first time layer!! What type of hen gave you that beauty? My Barred Rock gave me my first one last week and she's now just started laying daily eggs but they are on the small side, especially if you compare it to yours!!
So my BR gave me her first egg two days ago and now nothing. Does anyone know when I should expect her to start laying regularly? Gave her a little pep talk this morning! Hahaha!! My RIR and 2 EE should be laying in a couple of weeks, the wait seems sooooo long!
Hello,
This Thursday I get my first ever chickens! I'm so excited and yes a bit obsessed with my soon to have new girls! I live in California and will be getting 4 chicks. A RIR, Barred Plymouth Rock and 2 Easter Eggers. The coop is up and as predator safe as I can imagine, roof, wire on the...
