Thanks for the info! I tend to get the eggs daily anyway, but I will have to be a bit more disciplined. I would love to hatch my own chicks, that would be awesome!
I have had my chickens for two years now and I am proud to say that I have gotten my grandfather back into raising a flock of his own. He has a rooster now too, and since we love across the street from each other our chickens visit each other. With a rooster in town is there anything I should...
I woke up this morning, and she died over night which is very sudden to me. I'd like to learn more about this, so if it happens again I can try to treat it immediately. I looked at all sorts of posts on here to diagnose the situation, and made the necessary observations. Her eyes and nostrils...
Now every so often she'll wheeze and it sounds painful rather than just labored breathing. It almost like a squealing pig....there are no visible signs on the outside of anything wrong. Nostrils and mouth are both clean and clear.
Where could I get chicken antibiotics? She doesn't sound like the video you posted, but does gape for air like that. Just with more of a chicken sound to it. If that makes sense.
My wife had a snow day today and went out to give the chickens fresh water since its been freezing nightly. She noticed one of the five of our RIRs was taking deep breaths and wheezing with every breath. It's been really cold the last few weeks, so I have been keeping them inside their coop all...
We have a 140lb dog that has figured out how to open sliding glass doors if they aren't locked, so it's not uncommon for us to come home and find him wandering around outside. When we came home it didn't cross our minds that anything was wrong when our dog was out and about. I went to close...
We figured out a little more of went on last night. We have a 140lb dog that has figured out how to open sliding glass doors if they aren't locked, so it's not uncommon for us to come home and find him wandering around outside. When we came home it didn't cross our minds that anything was...
I am working on a system that will automatically close the door when night sets in, so that if I can't get home at night I don't have to worry. That'll take some time though. I'll just have to me conscience of locking them up before we leave. Sucks to learn the hard way, but it's the best way...
We lost our first chicken last night, so I am trying to figure out what did it and how to prevent it. This is my first year raising chickens, so I am very new to this. The attack happened around 10:30 - 11 at night, right before I was going to close the door to the coop for the night. There...
Thanks! I'll look for some Blue Kote spray this afternoon to help her out. She's still laying, so it doesn't seem to be all that awful. I just don't want it to turn for the worse.
It's been about 4 months and I had the first predator attack on my flock. Nine of the ten chickens got away unscathed, but one sustained a right wing injury. There is a bite or just an injury where the feathers have been plucked from the right shoulder. She isn't very sensitive to me looking...
Great, Thanks! I just wanted to make sure there was something I wasn't doing. The old chickens have full beaks, and the new ones have been debeaked, so I guess I feel a little bad for the new ones.
I wanted to try raising my own chickens for eggs this year, so about a month and half ago I built a coop and run and bought 4 chickens. About 3 weeks later, I was hooked and wanted more....so I went back to the original seller and got his last one. It look a couple days, but the original 4...
