Anyone here near Flemington, NJ that can tell me where to buy a single bale of straw? Cervenka Farms sold it over the winter, but I have not seen it lately.
Thanks, but from what I read there is an excessive amount of pruning involved to turn this into a hedge. I am familiar with them as trees and believe the fruit though edible is awful. I've contacted a few nurseries that have offered suggestions, but at $30 a shrub for several hundred feet is...
I may have caused confusion before.
My goal is to prevent the dogs from coming onto my property and allow wild animals to pass through.
My chickens have their own secure area so not an issue. I was trying to use their fenced area as a point of reference (I think that backfired on me).
Bottom...
This was a part of my earlier thread. I have 700ft of property line. My next door neighbor and the neighbor next to them have dogs (5 total) that are a concern (they have already been on my property). I need ideas/suggestions on what can be used that will allow the wildlife to go through, but...
DOGS, DOGS, DOGS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
They are the worst by far in my opinion.
Wildlife will usually attack or kill for survival.
Dogs on the other hand chase and attack for fun or for no reason at all (excluding feral/wild dogs of course).
Also, with wildlife you have a better chance of it being...
Has anyone used an air horn to chase away and/or retrain ignorant neighbors' dogs? Animal control just suggested this as yet another nonlethal and legal way to deal with dogs. I would like to hear from anyone who has used this method, what was your experience with it, and what type did you use...
Unfortunately I can't make them disappear. I am an animal lover (vegetarian etc) and want to take other measures. But in the heat of the moment if I actually caught the dog that was chasing my girls I would probably beat the daylights out of it. And that actually scares me.
To BLUCOONDAWG: I plan to keep whatever wire I use off the ground by at least 1' or so as I do not want to harm any other animals while doing this. We have a few bunnies that live on the property and hang out all day even when i am outside with my dog. I have never permitted my dog to chase...
To JETDOG: Bacon grease sounded like a good idea, but I don't want to unnecessarily invite the foxes over. They already know the Girls are there and so far I see them just walk by the pen, not even looking probably because they know they cannot get in. I'm sure they tried at one point but never...
To CAFARMGIRL: You hit the nail on the head "Even if a run is strong enough to prevent a dog breaking in they can still stress out the birds with their presence and behavior."
That is definitely another reason i want to teach the dogs to stay far away though I did not say that in my post...
I have a 15' x 30' pen completely enclosed in hardware cloth and roof.
Around this is their fenced yard made of 2" x 4" welded wire 6' high, 4x4x8 posts at 10' apart. Approx 30' x 100' in total. I need to add additional protection around the fenced yard.
My biggest threat (aside from 1...

Guys - I have a problem. Regarding aging chickens. I won't eat them, I don't eat meat BUT my husband does and he wants to "retire" them when they stop laying. I take care of our chickens and I don't want to lose them, especially by human hands. My husband says he...
Very good chance they didn't 'stop' laying, but stopped laying 'externally' and began laying 'internally', into the abdominal cavity (especially if they appear to be gaining weight). I had 2 girls that this happened too. The first one i took in for surgery and she had about 30 hard boiled eggs...
I am in need of an excellent vet who will not only see a pet chicken, but someone who knows poultry and/or has experience working with them.
I am not looking for an avian vet in general, or just an old time farm vet. I need someone with the knowledge, expertise, and capabilities to...

Any leads are appreciated. If possible...
My chicken has been ill and is losing weight (she is internally laying and has been through surgery already). I need a high calorie diet that might help since the protein from her layer feed, mealworms, cat food, fruits, vegies is not doing that.
