    Cornish X vs. Cornish Roaster

Walk like a duck, quack like a duck... Must be a duck? However, I call bs on a cross of cornish and rocks with 3 different descriptions.

When do I need an on farm safety inspection?

I would talk to your county extension agent for your local regulations. Or do what many do and say/do nothing.

Raising meaties on the cheep...anyone out there trying this?

Other than the fermented feed you're explaining what I do. Once they are out of the brooder they go to a grassy pasture, fed once a day, and fed bulk feed from my local mill. The only "things" that aren't locally grown in the mix is the protein. Everything else is cracked grains brought into...

    Chickenzilla...

Honestly, I let half my birds get to around 10#'s. I just like a big bird. The tenderness is all in the cooking. Although I would never try pan frying one that big. That's what the "runts" are for!

    Pasture for Cornish Crosses

I finish my Cornish X's off on a grass pasture mix in a fenced off area next to my barn. While I wouldn't say they forage, they do eat it up along with their regular food. If you have a few acres of grass, I would also suggest a tractor. I went with the dedicated area because of lazyness...

    Hoovers Hatchery

I have had great luck with Hoover's Hatchery. Been ordering from them (or as mentioned, they supply the local Running stores) for 6 years now. They are close to me so I think that has helped with my 100% live shipped bird record.

    How do I add Pictures

I just checked some old, old posts of mine with pics from photbucket. They appear. One thing I noticed is that when I pasted the pic link, the IMG in front was black, the IMG at the end of the link was blue like the rest of the link. So for lack of the proper term, I think the link is broken.

DIY Thread - Let's see your "Inventions".

I took a 10' plastic gutter (on sale for .99), cut it in half, and glued ends on them. Mounted it to a 2"x4" stand. One is for feed: One if for water (added a plastic float valve for auto watering): I had to seal that one up with silicone calk.

A "Cheep" Feeder/Waterer I was getting disappointed with some of the feeders and waterers you can buy at your local farm store or online catalog. While shopping at my local home improvement store I saw some rain gutter on sale (10' for $.99 after rebate) and remembered that many BYC'ers have...
