Brown bears and wolves have been de-listed in some places. As far as predatory birds, I doubt any will ever because people will risk a small fine to shoot one compared to a federal offense if they are still listed.

Probably came to the realization that nesting boxes are dry, lol. My girls have been wanting to hang out in the coop more than the run, even with part of my run being covered. We had 1.5 inches of rain already over the weekend. More to come through the week until the deluge from the...

What do you raise your chickens for?

Eggs and meat. We love the fresh eggs. Older hens and mean roosters are retired to freezer camp for meat.

Henry is making a lever action .410. Had the opportunity to shoot a friends and it is sweet. Would make a nice small game gun, and short range big game gun.

Yeah it did, Inhaled a whole daredevil like it was nothing, the treble hook ended up in the gills. So the pike ended up in the deep fryer.

What did you do in the garden today?

Picked green beans, they snuck up in me and I don't have the canning lids yet so I froze them this go round. The pressure-canner will get the next few patches, and then I might make some dilly beans this year. Also Weeded and trained the mouse melons.

Saw a fox the other day......

Grey foxes are notorious chicken killers. They are smaller and a little more agile than Reds. They'll stay on a flock until they are all gone or penned up in a secure run.

What did you do in the garden today?

I'm jealous. The wild black berries around here aren't ready yet. Checked them today, found a fawn that didn't make it also. Planted the rest of my pumpkins today after prepping the soil. It was in a fresh patch I tilled up, had a lot more rocks than I would have liked so I had to...

What did you do in the garden today?

Sorry about your loss deepbluesea parting with a pet is never easy. Hopefully given time the positive memories will help out weigh the pain of the loss. Weeded yesterday, picked yellow squash. Then retreated indoors when the rain arrived. We got an inch and quarter yesterday and the...

If you had it to do over again, what would you change about your coop/run?

Make the run bigger. I know by definition mine is big enough but I plan to expand it sometime this year to give all my girls a place to move around. Seems like the more space in the run the happier the birds are. I added a "clean out door" to the coop after I had it set up, and chickens...

    Who Else Is Fishing Today??

Anything that has a scent and tastes good they will eat. Similar bait to catfish bait works too, night crawlers and chicken liver. I've caught them as by catch while daytime cat fishing. I used to buy the commercially available carp bait balls, and they seemed to work the best when I...

Greys and fox were open, only took greys though. I see 5 greys to each fox, so I try to let the fox squirrels pass during the spring season.

I've always wanted a Kentucky long rifle too. Spring squirrel season closed today for us. I got a few a couple different mornings but its hard walking and keeping them fresh when its so hot out. I started my daughter in the woods and it slowed me down and scattered the squirrels but we...

Murray Mcmurray - 1 year later

I've ordered 15 chicks from them on 4 separate occasions over the last 7 years, each time receiving the mystery chick. Each order has had a rather wide range of breeds. My last order are ready to join the rest of the flock. I have only had one chick DOA from all 4 orders, and it was my...
