Hi all,
Two questions for the experts:
1) My buff brahma rooster is mating my welsummer lady, but she hasn't even started to lay. She is exactly 8 months old today. Should they be separated, or is she old enough to put up with him? She does not squat, but he doesn't seem overly rough either...
Does anyone have any laying hens for sale? I only had 2 laying and 1 came up missing today. I don't want to start over with chicks with it being so cold out. I am in Mustang and mutt chickens are fine by me :) My one hen can't keep up with the demand of just my family and i like to give away...
Chickens didn't want to play with me today, so here's one of my hounds getting some sunshine. Chickens routinely bully him away from his food dish and eat his kibble. Some guard dog.
My chickens must have heard I wanted to learn about processing because they just gave me my first two eggs this weekend! Excited to have something to show from them after starting this endeavor in May.
I plan to raise a few meat birds next year. If anyone is processing soon and wouldn't mind a student, I'd love to help out and learn. Can trade some venison roasts. :)
I hope these freeloaders lay sometime this year! My oldest two (barred rock and welsummer) are both 20 weeks...rounded down. Hopefully soon. No squatting or singing. The wait is killing me.
Thanks all. I didn't know if she was a leghorn or a white rock. She's so fun to watch and friendly, it makes me wish I would've ordered some leghorn chicks to raise. The rest of my flock will lay brown or green eggs, so her white ones will seem exotic. :)
I picked up this gal a month or two ago. She's about 16 weeks old now. Any idea on the breed? The lady I got her from hatches australorps and New Hampshire reds. This was the only white pullet on the property, lol. She is friendly and has bigger comb/wattles than the other pullets who are 4...
This was the slowest chick to feather out and he/she has a much redder comb than the rest of the cohort. Can anyone confirm this is a little cockerel? No crowing and doesn't seem more assertive than the others.
I have a Welsummer and a Barred Rock, both hatched ~5/23/13. They'll be 20 weeks old in a few days. Nothing yet. No squatting, faces aren't particularly red, combs/wattles not growing super fast. I'm ready for these girls to start popping out eggs and earning their keep (well... I don't...
I work for Department of Rehabilitation Services - the Deaf and Hard of Hearing unit. Oklahoma has equipment available to folks with hearing loss. Amplified phones, Captel, amplified weather radios, baby monitors, pocket talkers, door bell flashers, etc. LMK if you want me to send you an...
Well my blue Andalusian pullet is MIA today. No feathers or trace left behind. I expect some losses, but dang it, I was looking forward to seeing that girl all grown up!
Do you just top off the fermented feed as you run low, or is it best to use it all and then dump the liquid onto a new sack of feed in another container?
