The last weekend in June is the Rogue River Rooster Crow. A two day small town celebration. That includes a Parade, boat races on the river and the National rooster crowing championships. Our Silver Laced wyandotte rooster who crows continually and I were in attendance. The crow contest is a 30...
I waited tow weeks then covered the trap with a burlap bag and used marshmallows as bait left one out of trap where he could get a taste . It worked, cough two more, Oh I also set the trap in a deference location near the cope
I have 14 hens and I installed lights on a timer that come on a 4 am in the coop and the yard. We have not experienced any drop in egg production this fall so far. Here is southern Oregon it gets dark about 5 pm , sunset 4:55 pm today Nov 12

When i built our coop I hinged 1/2 of the rear wall, allowing me to pick it up. I then designed the inside of the coop so nothing touch's the floor, roosts, water, nest box's feeder. Now all I have to do too clean coop is open the back, push all debris out the back on to a tarp and it...
Dave; I had a similar problem and found out that my nest box's were to bright. Hens like a dark spot to lay eggs. I painted the inside of the nest box a bark color and put up a piece of shade cloth over the front blocking out some of the light , but leaving enough room for them to get in and...
I put all my mowing clippings from our very large yard in the run. Now it's about 8" deep and the chickens love it. :P I occasionally will rake them into pile, just to give them something to do. Our clippings have lots of leaves, sticks and bark chips in them along with lots of bugs. They are...
I like the Haber fright traps, too date i have caught 6 coons, 5 skunks, 2 opossum,2 house cats. However if you have a coon problem by two, as they rarely travel by themselves. Use Marshmallows for bait and you won't catch house cats.
I have had both in dog kennels and would never again have a rough surface again. All the poop got into the rogue surface and smelled and I was unable to keep it from stinking, even when washed. My kennel that i have now is smooth and cleans well and smell free. one more thing if you pour a...
Hi fellow Rogue River, BYC person I live just outside RR and keep an eye on this board also. We have 14 girls that will be laying soon. I just finished there new home. Stop by and see it if you would like, it's cool.
I too am a southern Oregonian and welcome to the board. I think if research chicken breeds you will find that are some breeds that do well in cooler climates . I think they will do fine. All that shade means they will be out of the rain, perfect !
I have two traps and use them all the time. They are great and work well. I would put it outside of the coop if you can and then the chickens won't trip it before the opossum. cat food works well for me and Marshmallows is the best for coons. Good luck let us know how you do.
WAAAAHOOO!!!!! More Oregon members, Welcome Kassis. I would be into some type of meeting or show, get together, once or twice a year that folks from all around the state could come too. Maybe a egg/ chick exchange:D
