We ended up building a run to add to the coop. There is a roof to make shade and the
dirt helps them stay cool. Once a day I sprinkle water on the dirt floor and dig holes so they can take a dirt bath in it. We even put a nesting box inside because we find the girls spend most of their time in...
Love that idea!!!! I have two coops one for my hen who had chicks two weeks ago and one for my other hens. I've noticed them all panting and holding their wings out. I wonder if I could offer a frozen jug to the hen who has
chicks? I don't want the chicks to get cold, but I feel bad because...
Mine hatched at day 20 and 21. I was told it could take up to 25 days. I'm not sure how often they should be turned. I was aware when mine were going to hatch because I saw a small hole being started from the chick, and they hatched later that day. Good luck!
Right from the beginning I noticed her struggling drinking and eating. So I'm wondering if she has something going on that
I couldn't help with. I felt just awful.
My broody barred rock named Speckles successfully hatched three eggs just a few days ago However one of the chicks seems weaker than the other two. I've watched her closely and noticed she seems to struggle drinking water, but she is always drinking water.
I've watched her eating, but she does...
Thanks everyone! I found out that this was originally a child's playhouse. The design is called "crooked house". I'm surprised that I can stand up inside and not even touch the ceiling. Right now I'm getting the girls use to sitting on the perch.
Here it is, our new coop! We found out that the community center was destroying this building because it was no longer safe for children to play in. With a little TLC we were able to patch the holes. All we have left to do is to put in some nesting boxes and make some doors. Our girls are gonna...
Just wanted to give you all an update. I purchased six fertilized eggs for my hen. Unfortunately my hen stepped on one of the eggs, so we have five egg left.
At day 20 (which was June 14, 2014) we had one egg hatch. And two more hatched on June 15th. We are waiting for our 4th egg to hatch...
On 7/9/2008 siouxbee asked "how long can a brood be off her eggs?" There were tons of
replies that said their hens were off for hours and even days and the eggs still hatched. You can try to search this post. Good luck and I hope this info helps.
I had found how long somewhere on this site. It's so confusing to find info on here, but I do remember reading about that just recently. If I find it I will let you know.
From what I've read the eggs are still good. I've read where hens can go off an egg for a few days and they still hatched even when the eggs went cold.
